Alright so I am sick of Comcast, they of the 300 channels of which we might watch 20, and their exorbitant bill.

Now there seems to be a ton of options these days Roku, TiVo, Google TV, Apple TV, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, God only knows what else.

I have read that a good HD antenna will take care of your basic channels with an even better picture than cable. A Roku box seems to provide a ton of content and helps to stream Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon prime.

I will be keeping my Comcast internet just the cable is pointless. God I wish they would charge you per channel and you could just pick the channels you want.

For those of you who have kissed cable goodbye and look to get the most bang for your buck what combination of the above or what are you doing to satisfy your entertainment needs?

The biggest negative for me would probably be the lack of sports on the basic TV, no ESPN, TNT or FSN.

I recently dropped Cox cable and kept just the internet and between the great HD signal from antenna, online streaming @ myp2p for sports not on network tv (especially with the veetle player), and EZTV.it or the freshwap.net forums for cable-only tv shows, I don't miss cable at all.

For me, since I was watching everything on DVR anyway (except for sporting events), there really is no difference downloading shows and burning them to a DVD RW to watch on TV, plus the commercials are already cut out for me. :)

I wish I had better options in my area. I told comcast to **** off last week but unfortunately since I have a lot of trees around my house I was not able to get satellite tv. Verizon nor ATT are around the area so my only option is cutting down most of the tree or sticking with comcast. The only reason I stick with them is because I want to always make sure that I can watch the Rockets. If it were for anything else, I wouldn't give two ****s about having cable.

Sports is the only thing keeping me from canceling satellite. There are just too many options that are cheaper

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to AstrosRocket again.

I'm not saying you should do this "BUT" in order to have Comcast Internet they have to enable basic cable. Basic Cable can be watched without any cable boxes... Online they show you how to remove the filter on the Wireless boxes located outside the house but then again do not do this... Yeah just FYI..

Sorry didn't mean to say wireless boxes but cable boxes.. Those little green domes or squares.. Also 50% of the time the technician doesn't install them anyways because they actually harm or slow the internet connection...So for "testing" purposes you can take the cable running to Table top Cable box and plug it in to your T.V. and see what happens..

I almost got a Roku a couple years ago, but I've ended up just using my XBox instead. I cut cable, kept the Internet, and I have Netflix and Hulu plus for pretty much all my basic shows and movies.

Sports is the biggest drawback of course, but luckily the NBA is the only thing I really care about watching all the games, and NBA LeaguePass Broadband is fantastic.

In a pinch, if there's a game or something I want to watch from another sport and I don't have a friend or place to go to see it, I just stream it on one of those sites that probably aren't very legit like adthe.net or something.

I will be doing this about a year from now to save money when I get married.

Will get an Apple TV for NBA league pass capability, already have Xbox Live for ESPN streaming and a Roku that will be used for Netflix on another TV. Pay for Hulu Plus and that will cover virtually anything that I watch. The only thing it will lack is TNT for NBA playoffs and FSN for Astros, but I am willing to go without those to save $50-$60 a month.

    Thanks for the good info!
I cut Comcast cable last month but kept the internet. I use a Roku box in the bedroom, and a LG blue-ray DVD player in the living room. They both show Netflix & NBA league pass. The Roku player has tons of available channels! http://shop.roku.com/

I ditched Comcast cable and internet last year and signed up with Clear internet for $45/month (no contract). It's definitely not as fast, but in general it gets the job done and then some.

I've never been much of a "live TV" watcher, so I can easily get my fix through Hulu, Netflix, HBOGo (I use my dad's account), Red Box, and the occasional less-than-legal online source. I have tried to watch some live over-the-air HD (eg. the NBA Finals), but I've had terrible luck getting reception. In other words, don't waste your money on a cheap antenna like I did if you plan to go that route.

In the end, I save nearly $100 per month based on what I paid with Comcast, and the only thing I truly miss is being able to conveniently watch Rockets games. Well, that and DVR - although after you get used to watching everything online a day after it airs, it's sort of like having everything on a DVR anyway.

I don't have cable. A boxee PC, hulu, and NBA League Pass with a proxy gives me more than enough stuff to keep me entertained.
