so i turned on my computer the other day and the screen pops up that says sorry for the inconvenience but your compter booted up incorrectly and it gives me these choices, safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, boot with last known configuration, and start windows normally.

i've tried all of those a number of times but after 5 or so seconds it always leads me back to this same screen. if i let the counter rundown it just repeats back to this screen as well. i don't have the disks that came with the computer, windows or re-boot, etc. so am i screwed or is there a way to get around this?

maybe it's an issue with the boot sector of your hard drive. What I'd do is to take out the hard drive and take it to a computer savvy friend who can "slave" the drive and check if the data is still in place. If so, then back up the data and have "scan disk" fix the boot sector and maybe reformat the hard drive. Otherwise, you can always get help with Best Buy Geek Squad or someone like that.

It's been a while since I had to do this, but can you repair Windows with the setup disk?

Sounds like something scandisk might fix.

That actually sounds like a good first step. See if you can boot the computer with your Windows CD. If you don't have one, you can probably borrow it from someone.

yea, boot off of a windows cd and do a checkdisk scan, that should fix any bad sectors in your harddrive.

To do that, you need to get your windows cd, boot off of it, and then enter the recovery console and type in chkdsk /r
