I will be moving to Austin in August and I was wondering if the Rockets games were televised on local TV in Austin. Since I live in Houston now I can't imagine not being able to watch the Rockets road games, I assume I can still catch the home games on Fox Sports Southwest. Thanks for the help.

I wish but the stupid SPURS own this area, so all of their games are on local and cable.I think every blue moon they would play a rockets game but if you want to see the rockets, you have have to get the nba ticket. It sucks and it's so lame when the spurs are not on but the rockets are and they still don't show the game.

There are no Rockets games on FSSW in Austin.

Occasionally you will see a promo for Rockets games, and a Rockets game on the preview channel, only to be blindsided by that crappy Tom Arnold show.

The only time the Rockets are on local TV is when they play the Spurs - either get the NBA League Pass, begin frequenting Sports Bars, or make arrangements to have a friend who has league pass tape the games for you.

    Rocket Fan,

Get NBA League Pass, that's what I did. it Rocks.
Also, if there are alot of people who watch Rockets games at the Tavern on Lamar Street.

Unfortunately we get boring Spurs basketball here.

When I lived there, there used to be a place that would show Rockets games, but i forgot the name of the place. If you're smart, just spend the $49 for directv and then just get the nba package. thats the best way to do it as long as its in your budget.

I feel your pain. I started college in the Fall of 86, right after the Shot Heard Around the World and the 86 trip to the finals and the loss against the Celtics. It was a Spurs town then too and the Spurs were horrible! At that time, there was no NBA League Pass and no internet either. I used to go to sports bars from time to time or try to catch 610 AM out of Houston. If the weather conditions are right, you live on relatively high ground or if you have a super AM antenna, you might could do that too. Gene Peterson is a great home announcer. I think the NBA may sell radio broadcasts over the internet. To see the games, if you can do it, the League Pass is probably your best bet.

I wasn't going to get League Pass again, but with the Rockets getting Yao I might just have to. Yao must start!

I moved to the Austin area about 5 years ago and got DirecTV just to watch Rockets games. It's a godsend for Rocket fans here. As mentioned, the Spurs seem to rule this market. The most annoying thing about DirecTV is it is very hit and miss as to whether or not you get to see a post-game show no matter where the feed comes from (home team or visiting team's affiliate). I've called DirecTV and complained. Probably not enough people complain about this. But a Rocket's fan enjoys the post-game festivities as much as the game. I do miss being able to listen to the local (Houston) post-game radio call-in show. Maybe if more of us call regularly and complain about this we will be assured of at least seeing any player interviews that take place.

Actually, there is one other REAL annoying thing about DirecTV -- when it rains much at all you will lose the signal. I missed part of the draft Wednesday evening due to a storm that came through.

League Pass only shows the game. It doesn't show pregame or postgame stuff for any team. It's not a Direct TV or In Demand rule, its an NBA rule.

Don't worry too much. We should be on national television quite frequently.

    Smokey,

Yes, DirecTV says this but they aren't very strict about it because I've seen post-game interviews close to half the time (especially during their 'free preview') when watching games. I call and ask hoping it will help even though I know it's pretty useless. I realize the best complaint would be to the NBA. (And best in this instance isn't very good either!)

What's a few more minutes? These transponders usually show more time alloted to the game than is actually required and they go blank with no following program. I know it's a minor point in the overall scheme of getting to see the games. But certainly adds a lot -- especially when the Rockets win. :)

Go to the Tavern, or Showplace Bolwing on South IH35, or any sports bar. We should watch some games next year.
