This suggestion has been brought up as a side note on numerous threads, so I thought I'd put it to the boards. It has been suggested, that, when Hakeem retires he should go into coaching. So the question is -- do you think he'd really make a good coach? He is undoubtedly one of the best all-time players in the NBA, with a wealth of knowledge, but good players don't always make good coaches. In fact, I've heard it alleged that the mediocre players make better coaches, since they have to work harder at it and rely more on knowledge and hard work than skill. Personally, I have a hard time seeing him as a coach. He is very reserved, and tends to keep to himself -- although he could be different with the players. I have also heard comments about his difficulty adapting to different types of offense. Considering that he has a lot of pride in his place as a player, it might be difficult for him to adapt to that change. I see him as a future asset to the team, helping out, giving pointers and advice, but not as a full time coach. What do you think? ------------------ Stay Cool...
I could see him as part of the staff as maybe a big man coach or something to that effect, but I can not see him as a bench coach. I don't think he has the personality for it. Not vocal enough. ------------------ - hoopjunkie "when you come in da HOOD... things change."
I think he would make an excellent assistant, but never a head coach. He has excelent footwork and blocking skills that he could teach the young guys but thats it. I also thinks that his personality wouldn't sit well with a younger player. His speaking skills wouldn't help either. ------------------
Can you see him doing it full time? Would he be able to put in three+ times the amount of work, only to watch someone else take the ball into the sunlight? ------------------ Stay Cool...
I don't think he has an interest in coaching. I also think he'd make a good assistant coach, but would he want that type of role? I think he could be a head coach, but it would take a lot of work on Hakeem's part. Moreso than a "vocal leader" type of player. ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem.
I think Hakeem was already asked about coaching but mentioned that he's not interested. I think heypartner sums it all up - lol. He may be a superstar athlete but you need to be an excellent communicator in order to be a good coach. Remember the visa commercial with Quitten? ------------------
Eddie Johnson would be a better coach. ------------------ You can't stop F&Brule, you can only hope to contain him.
PLus how many times can you use the Fokass speech, I'm sure dream would try and use it every game. We must Fokass on writing good threads and posts or this going to be a long off-season. ------------------
