I thought about this today as I was eating lunch at Pizza Hut. I had a restaurant glass given to me and a straw. I did not use the straw. I never use a straw when drinking from a glass. I got a refill and a to-go cup. I did use the straw there because I was driving. I don't think I am the only guy that goes "strawless" when eating and drinking. So, am I the only one or not?
You know this is the impression I got as well. It is like a "man" thing just like real men don't iron their jeans, have lap dogs for pets, and use drinking straws.
This. Yall really trust a minimum wage earning dish washer in the back of a restaurant to properly disinfect all cups and glasses?
Hell yes I use a straw. Some restaurants wash their plates and cookware and glasses in the same place. Presumably, it's hygenic, but if it is not, it's all infected. Some places store their glasses top down on counters wiped by disgusting rags. Inevitably, the server will grapple with the glasses after they've handled probably the dirtiest thing in a restaurant.. the menus. Always wash your hand after handling the menus. Those things are like petri dishes.
I once knew a guy who used this as the reason for using straws.. he was a microbiologist. That should tell you everything you need to know lol.
If its a styrofoam or paper cup, I'll use a straw. If its a real glass, I prefer to drink it without the straw.
I work at a restaurant. USE THE STRAW! some places I know gets so busy, that they just rinse the glass in cold water and reuse it right away. The top of the cup sits upside down on some old rags or dirty cup holders that's never clean.
