Alright, so I plan on going camping with some friends this summer in or around New Braunfels. We really want to go camping and also be able to visit Schlitterbahn during our trip. I personally don't know too much about the area so I'm still researching right now.

So my question is...Does anybody have any camp site recommendation in New Braunfels?

Head north of there by a good bit and camp on or around Enchanted Rock.

Lost Maples State Park on the other side of San Antonio from New Braunfels. That's where we always went when I was a kid.

Well, if you're gonna camp in that area, you've got Schlitterbahn, Canyon Lake, and the Guadalupe. Depends how much you're doin' of what to decide on a campsite really. Most of the camping sites get really busy and crowded as the summer comes along, so getting there early will maximize potential privacy and choice of spot, obviously, no matter where you go.

As far as my experience... and it's been a while since I've camped there... if you're tubing the horseshoe on the Guadalupe, then WhiteWater Sports is right there on it(and I'm guessing with water levels what they are, that will be a long trip, wow that water is cold and it moves slow when water is down). Could be gone by now, but I doubt it, place gets packed. If you're going to Canyon lake, there are lot of places to camp there, but I have done most of my camping at Jacob's Creek... again, getting there early is key to having a good spot, and specifically any privacy whatsoever. There are also cabins nearby if that suits you and your group (at least there used to be).

As for Schlitterbahn, that's on the Comal river I believe, and I bet there are places to camp on/near that which would be closer to Schlitterbahn in general, but I've only stayed in condos/hotel there and not camped.
