How many years does an arrest stay on your record?

I think it depends on the charges. Felonies stay longer.

    Texas....

It was the spring of 1998 and I got arrested for "criminal trespassing".

Disclaimer: I didnt drink one drop.....

Basically I was at a party with about 200 other people at this apt. complex. I had a video camera trying to get some college antics on tape..... Ok ok I was trying to get this girl to take her top off..... The off duty cop (who lived at the complex) saw me, and told me I needed to leave with everyone else. I was like ok but I have to find my friend...... He went and harassed someone else.... I was going to leave with a buddy of mine, but everyone wanted me to stay. My idiotic side got the better of me, so I stayed and went to another part of the complex. Sure enough, the cop returned and asked what I was still doing there. I told him I was hanging out with my friends. He said I was supposed to leave. I told him my car wasnt running (a lie). He said "You should have called a cab." Im like what??? "You are under arrest for criminal trespassing. The next thing I know, Im crying like a freaking girl in the back of a Lubbock cop car riding to my soon to be 14 hours of misery in the city and county jail - talk about sh!tty.......

No big deal meaning a prospective employer would probably not care?

It also depends on whether or not you were convicted. How long ago was it?

Depends if you still have the tape, and if your prospective employer is "Girls Gone Wild."

Arrests are on your "record" indefinitely. An employer can simply go to the courthouse and make a Texas Open Records Act request for your background or use a website such was publicdata.com. If an employer asks for your criminal record, my opinion is to just be honest. Barring certain jobs, most employers understand youthful indiscretion.

I also got arrested in Austin on November 2003 on a similar charge (criminal mischief, class B). My lawyer is taking me through a pre-trial diversion program to expunge the arrest record and all that. Just wanted to know if this is best way (not that it matters, I already paid for his services so...).
