Is it legal to drive around in Texas with this frame? I did some research but i got mixed results. Some said if it doesn't completely covered the word Texas its ok. Some said I can't drive around with any frame because its just an accuse for the cop to pull me over. Anyone have one of these frame or know more about the law regarding the frame?
No problems at all. I'm pretty sure you're safe. I've driven all around Houston with it. I have had one on the back of my car for over a year and have been meaning to get one for the front.
I think last year they started cracking down on those plate frames. They were giving out tickets like candy. Then there was some uproar about it and I think they stopped giving tickets for it. In theory though a cop could use it as an excuse to pull you over. Of course they can pull you over for just about anything they dream up if they really want to do it.
Thanks for the reply guys. I guess I'll just roll the dice on this one and hope that the cops are rockets fans lol.
I have a Rice University one on the back (doesn't cover the Texas) and no front license plate (my car is too pretty for it ) and I haven't been pulled over yet. I don't think cops care enough to just pull you over for it but they can tack it on a ticket if you are speeding or something.
I seem to recall a few years back they changed the law so that any frame that even partially covers the "Texas" portion is illegal. So now you see dealer license plate frames that are thinner on top. Whether a cop will pull you over or not is a whole other story.
^ Do they, really? The times I've called, they've helped me, at least with my questions. I've been patient and courteous with them. Are you being sarcastic, madam?
The two locations I have called this week just keep putting people on hold so the lines are busy and they do not have to answer the phones.
If their telephone operating is anything like the way they run the DPS for walk ins, then yes I was being sarcastic. But since you've had a positive phone experience, he could try calling. Maybe they outsource the telephone operating jobs.
^ No need to bring our customer service peeps down, madam. I think that if he approaches this the right way, he'll get his answer quickly. It's also a matter of catching the properly informed person on the phone. I wonder if this question could have already gotten an answer by researching online? http://www.snopes.com/politics/traffic/texasplate.asp
