If anyone can help I would totally appreciated it. I've been trying to get a digital 5.1 sound off my PS3 with no luck, it's hook up thru my TV using componet cables and all I get for my blue ray dvds is pro logic 2 for some reason i can get, 2 recievers now, to read the digital source and give me full 5.1. Any suggestions??? TV is a Sony Wega HDTV LCD Reciever is a Sony DX 375
have you hooked up the optical cable from the ps3 to the receiver? or just the stereo cables with the component hookups. also BD do use different audio (movies that is) that could be an issue.
just for your future reference, component only refers to the video signal of a source, it has nothing to do with audio. not only that, but component only has 3 cables. the other 2 you're talking about is probably just regular Stereo Left/Right, in which case you would obviously not get any type of true digital surround now in your last reply you said you tried hooking up the digital optical cable...are you positive you know which types of cables you're talking about? because as far as I know, the PS3 does NOT come with an included optical cable. so unless you bought one yourself or already had an extra third-party one, maybe you're confused on which cable it is?
I've bought component cables, I know the PS3 comes with the basic connection. I've even tried it with the HDMI cables and I can't get the proper sound to work for some reason
What he said...The HDMI is only for both audio and video, but assuming it only goes directly to the TV...I am assuming the PS3 has an optical (the old xbox does) plug in and you need to dedicate it to one of your optical ports on your receiver to hear it in your sound system...
my reciever doesn't have an optical port. Weird thing I don't understand is that I have a standard DVD player hooked up to the reciever and it reads the 5.1 sound fine but when I hook up the PS3 it will only read the Pro logic source
What audio mode do you have it set on? I read that it's supposed to be set on "Bitstream" if you're using an optical cable.
The optical cable was going directly into the TV, my reciever doesn't have a female port for optical cables. The setting was on bitstream.
The problem with your system is that it does not have any digital or optical inputs for audio, it only has anlog audio inputs. You are not going to get DD or DTS sound if you connect your PS3 or any other audio component to it.
You need to go directly from your PS3 to the receiver. If you do not have a optical input, you have a digital coaxial input. Look for an input that is brown and go buy the digital sound coaxial cable. Hmm...that is weird...I'm assuming your receiver would state 5.1 before and now the display says Pro logic...Is this in your "TV" viewing input? Another thing, if your optical cable goes directly to the TV, wouldn't you have to have your receiver be in the "TV" mode for it to produce the sound via the optical cable? Meaning, if you have your PS3 in say HDMI, the receiver wouldn't pic up the optical cable...Not saying you need a new one, just that we need to do more research...
