Ok so, I have COX high speed cable internet. I have the package that gets an advertised speed of UP TO 15mbps.

So I go to http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ to check the speed of my internet, and it's reporting a whopping 33.44mbps download and 10.80mbps upload!!!

I wanted to downgrade my package to the UP TO 3mpbs package only if I could still play on Xbox Live like normal because my friends is just fine and he only gets 4mps.

Why would speakeasy report my internet speed so much higher then the MAX it's suppose to go?

Jesus....my (wifi network) says DL speed @ 5.82 mbps and UL @ .95.

Those numbers you're getting are insane.

my gawd. I just clocked 16.71mbps dl, with 3.68mbps ul.

Btw, I have the preferred package from COX, which is suppose to be 12mbps, IRRC. My computer is just beastly.

    I got

with Cox high speed via wifi.

I have a couple torrents running in the background. Does that affect the test?

Guess it does. Tested again after the torrents finished and got 19.32 mbps download and 3.76 mbps upload.

Much faster than the limits Cox advertised.

it's powerboost (at least thats what comcast says it is)..basically the first 15MB of a file downloads at a MUCCCH higher speed than after that. so all the speedtests are going to be wrong since they use small files. once again tricks my ISPS to make you think you have some amazing connection.

only way to find true speed of your connection is download something large and see how long it takes. here's are a couple of links to do that.

    http://cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.test

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5B33B5A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4&displaylang=en

you should also use a small utility to monitor the actual speeds instead of getting the average from IE or firefox.

    http://www.hootech.com/NetMeter/

for ex. i keep getting 22mbps download on comcast..and like 2mbps upload..

my true connection is 6mbps down and 1mpbs up.
