My auto insurance is up in a couple of weeks (State Farm) and I'd really like to move to another company with a similar policy that is less expensive. My wife bought a house before we were married and I've had several good quotes come through on both the house and auto if we combine both properties on one policy. In order for these policies to be combined, does my wife need to add me to the deed of the house or since we're married does this not matter?
I don't think you need your name added to the deed at all. I would be wary of trying to find a deal that combines home and auto insurance in Harris county though. I was told when I did some shopping most insurance companies have refused to cover homes here.
If it's an issue for whichever company you choose to go with, ask them to make your wife the primary/head of household on the auto policy. I'm not sure how the market is in Arkansas, but in Houston, it's starting to become better to split your home and auto with different companies than to combine them.
Depending on the carrier, you may not be able to insure the home under your own policy. Google "insurable interest".
I used to be under Farmers for my car insurance but I have ditched them years ago for the little car insurance companies. I only buy liability since my car is worth less than 4k.
