If I have an hdtv tuner built into my tv, can I get the hdtv channels for free, or do I still have to pay for an hdtv package through comcast?

Does comcast, for example, block their hd signal from their customers who only subscribe to their basic channel package.

    I live in memphis.

HDTV tuner gives you free OTA (over the air) channels that are HD which are like CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX etc provided you have a good antenna.

Depending on where you are, the quality will vary. Comcast etc doesn't go over the air so it's signal is more steady. Plus it has other channels like Discovery HD and ESPN HD.

to answer your question more fully: you can't get HD channels from comcast unless you pay for them. but you can get some free OTA HD channels with an antenna.

Is anyone able to get PBS OTA? Seems like that's the only channel I can't get.

Any recommendations on a good tuner to buy? I dropped Comcrap and will now be just using over the air for now, but I need my HD fix.
