Hey fellas, so I finally got most of my HD stuffs working with the help of this great forum. Everything looks great now except for my xbox 360. This is a pretty old 360 and it doesn't have the HDMI output so I bought a component cable from ebay (link below) for 12 dollars hoping to finally be able to play my old 360 in HD. However, when I plug in the component cable and try to set the console to 720p it refused to do it. I got a message from the system menu saying I need to switch the button on the component cable from TV to HDTV but the problem is there is no button anywhere on the component cable and I know the button is suppose to be on the part where you plug into the 360. Anyone know what the problem is? maybe I got the wrong cable? I got conned? here it is Ebay Link
sounds like a faulty cable at least the cable i used to have when i used a component setup for my 360 had that hdtv switch on the cable. try a different brand cable or borrow a friends cable to make sure?
there used to be a setting on the xbox "Blade" for switching to 720. If the coed has no switch and you can access the menu, look for display settings and see what you find.
Yeah buy the actual Microsoft-made cable. On a side note, the 360 is the only device I know of which can send a full HD signal to an analog computer monitor. Again, you need the specific cable, but it is kind of amazing really since that exact ability is something that the HD developers fought long and hard *against*. But Microsoft slipped it right through.
Is the picture going to look better if an HDMI cable is used instead of the HD component cable? I've got an older xbox 360 as well, and I'm using the HD component cable.
Anybody ever have any issues with the component hookup..using the MS cable? My system used to work fine on HD, but I had unhooked it the other day moving stuff around and now I can't get an HD picture anymore. Just a bunch of lines or a blank pic. Any ideas?
I really cant tell a difference. I have both of them hooked up to my 360 and I use the component input when I play because it comes up first on the source menu.
i believe there is no difference really except for one thing: the component cables transfer out 1080p for games but only 1080i for HD-DVD movies (if you have the add-on) the VGA output and hdmi will output 1080p for all content. Also you can also send out the sound through the hdmi cable if you have a hdmi a/v receiver which is nice
