I just got offered a job and they required that I take a drug test in order for me to get the job. I have never done drugs in my life but I recently took some painkillers (Darvocet) in order to help me sleep. The painkillers belonged to my uncle, so in other words they were not prescribed to me. I am worried that this will show up in the drug test and I will be disqualified from the job. Do I have anything to worry about?
I think they usually ask you if you are on any medication before you take the test. Just tell them you are taking Darvocet.
I took the test today and they didn't ask me anything. I am not sure I would have told them anyway considering that the painkillers were not prescribed to me.
Just to clarify, the last time I took the Darvocet pills was on Wednesday of last week; so it has been 9 days. Would they even still show in my system?
You should be fine with the Darvocet. Opiates should be out of your system in no more than 4 days. Drug tests are not nearly as sensitive and accurate as they would like you to believe. Just a few weeks ago, a close 'friend' of mine passed a drug test on Monday after smoking pot on Saturday night.
I can't believe Americans are running around, peeing in cups to get a job. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I think it's a gross violation of our civil liberties and it's presuming you're guilty until proven innocent. Maybe for airline pilots and the like, but it's just gotten outrageous. I'll return the soapbox, now. Thank you. Oh, and good luck.
Some jobs that require you to be sober for safety reasons, I completely understand. But for a friggin office job ... and most places only do one test upon hiring. Whats the point? If you can't pick them out in the interview, then you probably don't need to be in the interview process.
I have a "friend" who has done this before, too. Only the test was a mere 1 day after the incident. Remember: You don't have to test negative, simply inconclusive.
I think employers have a right to set the rules for employment and if they don't want drug users on their payroll....more power to them. As for my company....SHHH..yeah..whatever...video games? The only drug testing we have is that you have to have tried 3 drugs just to get an interview. DD PS. That was sarcasm...but I really don't care if my employees do drugs or not as long as they get the work done and are professional about it.
Exactly! As long as you have a little bit of warning and access to plenty of water to drink, you'll have no problem making that test inconclusive.
That should be the standard. What you do outside of the office is your business, unless it begins to affect what you do inside the office.
I've been pissed 5 times in a month before. Our average was 3/mo for about 18 months, then it dropped to once a month. That stuff sucks, especially because each person is being watched like a hawk. They've got special drinks if you know you are going to be pissed. I know up in Georgetown people buy them. Getting drugs out of your system not only depends on the drug, but your body fat content. The fatter you are, the more your body stores. It also depends on how frequently you use. If your hair is too short, they can't really effectively do a follicle test on you, plus it's more expensive than doing the ol' urine test. Drop a couple of pubes in the cup, that should make them go inconclusive. Or you can go get a mouth of water, tell them you have to take a poop, and spit the water in the cup (I know someone who did this, but mysteriously still tested hot. He was framed)
I heard that theres is this drink at Jamba Juice and one of my friends said it worked for him. He took it a couple of hours before testing. Ill find out the drink name and let yall know.
