As the Texans continue to lead in the Reggie Bush race, some have pointed out that we already have a good RB in Davis. Assuming we do get the 1st pick, would it be possible to trade Davis? And what do you think we could get for him? To me, if you can pick up Reggie Bush and get a 2nd round pick for Davis, it's a slam dunk. But is that possible?
Yes, DD can be traded and probably would be if we get Bush. But I wouldn't expect a whole lot in return. He just signed a pretty hefty extension, so I don't think you could get more than a 3rd or 4th rounder.
Probably a third rounder, maybe a late second. You also have to remember that we'd have to eat close to $4 million on the cap next year if we trade DD (signing bonus money). I think it comes down to Bush and a third rounder or DD, 2 firsts and another first day pick. If you ask me, I'm taking the DD option.
you're not gonna get much for Davis, he hasn't proven he can play 16 games. I agree maybe 3rd rounder or late second.
If everyone agrees that you can't get that much for Davis, then what's he worth? Not much. To me, it makes the decision to draft Bush easier.
QUESTION: I remember SD trading their #1pick (VICK) for 2 first rounders (LT,BREES) and some people think we can do that to with the #1 pick (BUSH) but ... What bad team currently have 2 first round picks? this yr like Atlanta did that year? Jets, GB, Tenn, 49ers, Arizona, Oak? and you can't go to far out or u'll pass up on D'Brick with a top 5 pick. Is that even an option this yr? ... I dont think is worth it if is to trade down TOP 5 still and get a 2nd rounder and extra 3rounders pick for BUSH!
He's a young, guaranteed 1000 yard rusher who excels at catching the ball out of the backfield. He's a worth a ton to the Texans, the only reason we can't get equal value for him is because of his new contract.
Considering that the NFL has a hard salary cap, you can't ignore his contract while determining his value. To me, freeing up money is an extra bonus.
Read my earlier post, you eat almost $4 million in bonus money by trading DD next season. More reason to keep him and trade down. BTW, Bush is going to be making a TON more than DD is right now.
He might have a little trade value. The thing about the NFL is that rushers good RB's are a dime a dozen these days. The Broncos traded Clinton Portis for Champ Bailey (a CB) and many thought that Denver got the better end of the deal. I just dont think that RB's hold as much value as any other position. I think he could be traded, but as far as his value is concerned, its probably minimum.
I think that we could demand something similar to what SD got for Eli two years ago. The #4 pick, a second rounder and a #1 pick the next year.
Maybe I don't understand. Haven't we already paid Davis that money? It seems like we eat it one way or the other, so there's no effect on our cap whether he's traded or not. Sure, it's not a good value to pay someone a signing bonus, then turn around and trade him, but #$%* McNair getting value for his money. Anyone who bought a ticket this year has gotten bad value, so welcome to the club Bobby.
Signing bonuses are spread out over mulitple years with regards to the cap. Yes, the money's already been paid, but it hasn't counted against us on the cap. The minute DD is traded, all of his unallocated bonus money counts against the cap. That's about $4 million that could have otherwise gone to free agents. If anyone offered alot more than that for Bush, I don't see how the Texans couldn't accept. Hell, I'd move down for the same offer.
Interesting. It seems that our ability to sign free agents would significantly drop next year, but then improve somewhat over the following years. I don't really see the harm in that, given that this team is still a few years away from being a real threat. I guess everyone is asking themselves the same thing. "How sweet would the offer need to be?" For me, someone would have to sell the farm - their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd this year and next year's 1st as well. Maybe more if the other team doesn't have great draft position this year. You have to realize that Bush is more than a player - he's a marketing tool that will put fans in every seat, even if his first few years are lean for that team.
