I've been reading and hearing a lot about the Cheney hunting accident and I'd like to get some of your opinions on why it's such a big deal. I can see how anti-gun activists can say "I told you so" and make some noise about the accident and the fact that it was the vice-President certainly makes it newsworthy but why is it such a huge deal in the media? I mean it was an accident. It could have been tragic and fortunately for those involved no one got killed but it was an accident none-the-less. You can argue (I guess) that he wasn't very forthcoming about it but I'm not sure why he should be beyone saying that it happened. So assuming it was an accident and not some conspiricy (i.e. the guys really dead and they're covering it up, etc...) what am I not seeing that is so obvious to everyone else?
a) the white house didn't tell the press but a private citizen did 14 hours after the incident. b) the sheriff wasn't allowed to talk to the vp until the next day. c) cheney admitted he had a beer. but we can't verify if it was only one beer given b. d) we're idiots and sheep. instead of going after the b*stard for leaking classified information for political retribution we feel more comfortable going after him with this.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - A white house source stated that Congress is considering awarding Vice-President Dick Cheney the Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian commendation, for his act of bravery in shooting an attorney. The source was quoted to say, " All Americans have wanted to shoot a lawyer at one time or another and Cheney actually had the guts to do it". In a related story, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, which issues hunting licenses, said that it will start requiring hunters, wishing to bag a lawyer, to have the new "lawyer's stamp" on their hunting license. Currently Texas hunters are required to carry stamps for hunting birds, deer, and bear, at a cost of $7 annually. The new "lawyers stamp" will cost $100, but open season will be all year long. The department further stated that although the "lawyers stamp" comes at hefty price, sales have been brisk and it is believed it will generate annual revenues in excess of $3 billion dollars the first year. Other states are considering similar hunting stamps.
IT smacks of elitism and executive privilege any ordinary joe would be in jail for negligence Rocket River
Why is it such a big deal? Pretty simple. 1) Liberals hate George W Bush and everybody in his administration. This is a chance to make a big deal out of nothing and pander to the masses who hate Bush and seek their fill of the "outrage of the day" 2) Liberals hate guns. Cheney was using a gun 3) Liberals hate hunting. It kills cute animals.
They didn't make a big deal about the accident itself. The media made a big deal about the way Cheney and the whitehouse handled the incident.
The libpigs hate Cheney. They HATE him. This innocuous incident, while completely free of any wrongdoing whatsoever, is embarrassing for Cheney. Since the libs can't nail anyone in the Administration on any of their other misguided gambits (NSA, Patriot Act, Plame, etc), they jump on Cheney for an unfortunate, embarrassing incident. It's that simple. It's hilarious that the libs are reduced to such trivial sniping...
the conservoswine will just eat up whatever the cheney administration tells them without question. they are so blinded by their partisan loyalty and undying devotion to their precious that they have no problem with cheney refusing to be interviewed by the police the day of the shooting, even there is no way any other american could do such a thing. its not even an issue to the average conservapig. no matter what the cheney administration does they will be defended to the death by their mindless minions.
Of course members of the administration have been nailed on the Plame case, and it isn't even over yet. The NSA isn't over yet, and The President has failed to make permanent the provisions of the Patriot act.
"nailed?" how so? Libby has been indicted, but he's entitled to his day in court, and can't be said to have been "nailed" until convicted, unless you amend it to read "innocent until proven guilty...unless you're a republiican." in any case, Libby's indictment has zero to do with the alledged underlying crime, for which no one has been "nailed" and for which no one is ever likely to be, since it's equally unlikely any "crime" ever occured.
It is not a BFD. It was a minor deal those PR was handled very poorly. Cheney also behaved poorly after the shooting, by heading back to ranch to liquor up while his "friend" went to the hospital. All in all, nothing tha rises up to the Plame leak or NSA illegal spying.
I don't think the Secret Service would let the VP go hang around someplace... unless it were an already secure facility...
