    Queen plan comeback

Former Queen star Brian May has spoken of his excitement about the decision to reform the band and go back on tour.

May and Roger Taylor are understood to be recording a new album with vocalist Paul Rodgers, formerly of Free, replacing Freddie Mercury.

There are also plans for live dates from the group, apparently under the name of Queen, despite the group lacking the presence of iconic frontman Mercury.

May said the duo, who are also set to go ahead without founding bass player Roger Deacon, have recorded some "great" new songs with Rodgers.

He explained: "We went in the studio to see what happens, because we've already tested it pretty good on stage and that works great.

"And we went in almost unprepared and came up with some tracks, which I think are really great. They're very different, they're very unlike anything that we've done, or anything that Paul's done."

Speaking about plans for new live shows, May continued: "It's gonna be good, because next time we go out, we won't just be nostalgia, we will be: 'This is what we are.'"

It isn't Queen if Freddie Mercury isn't in it. Freddie ought to be spinning in his grave.

Uh, the guy's name is John Deacon, not Roger and John Deacon is one of the most highly underrated bass players in rock music history, IMO. Really disappointed that this article screwed that up.

I don't see myself wanting to get anything new by them - Queen WAS Freddie Mercury. That's great that Brian May and Roger Taylor want to continue but don't call your band, Queen, because it isn't the same band without Deacon and especially without Freddie.

What ashame. I hope they don't do it. I don't mind the other guys from Queen and new signer starting a new band, but they shouldn't try and pretend it will be Queen.

Paul Rodgers singing Queen songs is like Tom Waits singing Prince songs.

    I think I'll pass.

It isn't Van Halen unless Diamond Dave is in it.
It isn't Journey unless Steve Perry is in it.
It isn't Styx unless Dennis DeYoung is in it.
    etc.

But if you want to see any of these live or come out with new material, ...

    Twilight Zone Moment.....

I just got an email from TicketMaster. Paul Rodgers will be performing at Reliant Arena during the Houston Grand Prix in April.

True story: I'm in Vegas w/ one of my friends and we're taking a break from the tables at one of the hotel bars. Bartender nods her head to the back and says, "That's the guy from Queen." We look back, sure enough it's Brian May. We ask the bartender to send over a drink to him - since he's from Queen and that's awesome.

He comes up to us a few minutes later and says thanks, and ends up chatting w/ us for 10 minutes. Really nice, mellow guy. He then gets us free tickets to the 'We Will Rock You' show at Paris. Aces in my book.

I'm thinking Johnny Cash's cover of NIN's 'Hurt'. Come to think of it...Maxwell's cover of NIN's 'Closer' too.

I don't... and IMO I think Freddie Mercury, in terms of significance, is on a different stratosphere compared to Diamond Dave, Perry or DeYoung.
