I am tired of hearing about how much #8 sucks. He is going to be the QB for better or worse, and we need to get used to it. I am also tired of hearing how we need a super fast WR to stretch the field... Why? Everyone in the NFL knows that #8 can't throw deep, accurately. I think we need depth on the lines and @ LB as a priority. Smith can then focus on WR's that have the ability to get open on short and medium routs in the later rounds (2,3,4).

    Si' or No?

Forget about a specific type of receiver, we just need a legit #2. It's been a problem for YEARS! Receivers take time to develop. Only a handful can really contribute right away. The longer you wait to take one, the more likely it is that they won't be ready to step in as a starter right away (or even a couple years down the road). So you can wait to take one, but the hole at #2 WR will still likely be there and whoever you pick might not even be ready to be a steady contributor before Martin and a healthy Posey are because they'll be a year behind.

We need a playmaking number 2 receiver. Matt's not going anywhere

So you just want to double down on failure. Good idea.

I agree, we don't need a deep threat because Schaub will underthrow that ball two-thirds of the time.

However, getting a super-quick and speedy player could really help us out around the line of scrimmage with WR screens, short crossing patterns and end-arounds. Aside from a couple of WR screens from Andre, we got very little from these types of plays this year. Might even help us improve our 3rd down conversion percentage. I watched Tavon Austin a bit at the Combine in the drills and the 40... I don't know if he'll slip to us, but he fits the bill.

If we go WR, it sure would be nice to get a guy that can contribute around the line of scrimmage and has the explosive play-making ability to take it to the house. If that guy isn't available, then I hope we shore up the defense. IMO, Schaub can't carry us to a Super Bowl, we'll need an ELITE defense to do that.

Schaub isn't exactly a spring chicken... if there is a good QB prospect who drops to the late first round, you pick him up a la Packers' drafting Aaron Rodgers even tho they had a hall of fame QB was still producing.

we need a dominant slot receiver so schaub doesn't have to rely on his noodle arm or on having to move around the pocket to make throws that take time to develop.

There is a really high possibility that the Texans draft WR with their first pick... Bob McNair has made it clear he wants something dynamic next to AJ...

The team needs playmakers. Guys who can eat up yards in big chunks. Break plays downfield. Doesn't have to be off a bomb.

This team continues to have a huge problem scoring on goal line situations and inside the 20 also. I'd like to see a legit full back although i doubt it will happen.

Schaub does have a noodle arm. I wouldn't be opposed to a Travon Austin, but if he is a B+ option and we have to take him #1, I don't think that would be the best overall pick for the draft spot. I believe we could get a B or B- option later in the draft, like 3rd round. Maybe we could pull a Patriots like move and move our 3rd rounder and a 5th for the ability to move up into the second round, to pick a WR.

Is there any way Swope falls to us in the 3rd? I would love to take him, possibly even at 2 to be slot receiver. That way you can still get ILB, NT, possibly saftey if Quinn leaves.

Late 3rd? Unlikely Swope is there.

I do think Swope could be there late in the 3rd. I like the idea of adding a new TE in the 3rd too.

Good point. It hasn't been talked about too much but TE is certainly important and the depth there is limited, especially with how many 2 tight sets they use. Graham is/was serviceable but he isn't dynamic and i'm concerned about his concussions.

I'd have no problem with them picking up a top TE in the first half of the draft if they think they have a guy who can be a stud. Hell, I wouldnt even be against taking one in the first if he's clearly the best available talent.
