Tom-Deland: Hey Doc! Steve Francis' numbers are down this year, is that a bad sign for the team, should they try to trade him? Dr. Jack Ramsay: Steve is struggling a bit with his game; and the Rockets will consider any trade if they don't make the playoffs this year. I like Steve...but he's not your prototype point guard. Don't give up the ship yet...JVG is a top level coach and his system hasn't really set in yet...although he's turned the defense around. Bill: (Pheonix): Tom had a great question. What about Francis for J-Kidd. JVG would have his style of pg and Kidd gets to play with a big man. The Nets could also move stadiums without being held up by their star and bring in a ticket-seller in the Franchise. Dr. Jack Ramsay: Houston would love it; but I don't think the Nets would consider it. But I've been wrong before.
Eddie Griffin would pick up a gun and shoot himself if Kidd and Francis were swapped. I'd love to make that trade though. New Jersey would take a real hit though while Francis tries to learn their complex system. But New Jersey may wnat to get a younger and flashier guard since they're trying to fill seats and sell the team too.
Kidd never stays long enough to warrant trading for him. For some reason he always gets bounced. Must be a reason. I'd rather go with the vegetables we grew in our own garden.
There is no way that the Nets would trade Kidd for Francis straight up. Maybe if we offered them four 1st round picks to go along with Francis they would go for it.
Just once... I'd like to see a Jack Ramsey thread without a "Dr." in the title. It's a pretty meaningless accolade given the topic.
EG would miss, of course . Yeah, I'd make that trade on skill set yesterday. But, how long is Kidd's contract? He'd definately get us a good look at Yao before we traded him again in the 3rd or 4th year.
While I would consider the trade, I just can't bring myself to sign off on it. Steve is showing signs of getting it and just may be ready to take that next step forward in his development. Consistancy is the key.
You guys have got to be kidding me. I would trade Francis for Kidd in a heartbeat. Kidd is the most complete player in the game and has carried NJ twice to the finals on his back. That team would have trouble making the playoffs without him, and you say that you wouldn't trade for a consistent underachiever like Francis? Any GM in his right mind would do it, no doubt about it.
Kidd is also much older. For once, lets just settle on one team instead of "wow, that guy looks good, let get him, no lets get him!".
Exactly. Im not going to say that we would or would not be a better team with Kidd, but I think most would agree that having a poor shooting PG is not exactly condusive to opening things up for your center. Steve's history suggests that his shooting will come around eventually. Kidd's hitory suggests the opposite. The key is, Yao becoming a dominant force. Until its determined whether or not he can, then we have to hold onto the few players we have that can create their own shots and win games.
This doesn't have ANYTHING to do with the "wow factor". It has to do with winning championships. It has been pointed out more than once that Francis already looks a step slower this year. Since he certainly isn't a smart player by any means, watch him become a shadow of his former self in a couple of years when his athleticism starts to leave him for good. Kidd may well play to his 40's on smarts alone, like Stockton did. NEXT!
I wouldn't touch it. I don't think Kidd has more than two or three more years left where he will preform at the level he is. He's maxed for several years past that. Francis is in the growing pains stage, where maturity and basketball IQ is developing and he's gone as far as he'll go relying on his physical tools. Those knocking him for a lack of a mental game have valid points, but I honestly believe he's starting to become a better player. Example 1 - Breaking plays. Francis has cut this out big time. He still does it here and there, but NOWHERE close to the extent of the previous few years. Stay with Francis. If anything, look to move him to SG (more). Evan
No way. Kidd is shooting .401 from the field without anyone that demands a double team on NJ but himself, and .329 from 3pt land. And if we are going to talk about being clutch, you really haven't watched the Nets for the last couple of years if you aren't aware of how many games Kidd has won for them. Meanwhile, Francis is shooting .390 with two very real offensive threats in Yao and Mobley, .290 3pt. Carrer-wise, Francis may have better fg%, but when you see what Kidd brings to the table, it's a no-brainer. NEXT!
