Just saw one Satruday night at the Atomic Cafe, done by Bobbindoctrine (a group that does shows there and at Diverseworks). It was actually three existentialist stories and all were quite good/funny. Anyone else know about this group? I would reccommend seeing them sometime. ------------------ rimbaud post-a-thon 2000 *Your Ad Here*
Rimmy!! Nice question. You would be surprised how many lurkers could answer your question. Even while on vacation in Boulder, I have to speak up on this thread with the outside chance that some lurkers just might register based on you bringing up Bobbindoctrine. Joel is the answer to your question. One of those most fresh artists who creates without slinging angst around. Never any pained complaints about the undeserved success of others. He has worked in Montrose as far as I can remember. He might have greeted you at the Landmark River Oaks, back in the day. For those who have not witnessed one of his company's productions...you'd be surprised. His puppets are full-sized actors amongst a human supporting cast. If you have ever seen The Carpenter Story done in stop-motion barbie dolls, you'll understand how puppets can add tremendous effect to human trials. I guarantee we have several lurkers who can add more to my brief answers to your question rimmy. In fact, we have a legend here for sure ... initials JN, director of IBP. Plus, speak up you INIT people who work with Joel. Come on Jason, register finally, or I could always print your works from the 1987 Epiphany, until you do. again, cc.net surprises me with diversity, and so does Houston. ------------------------ The New Millenium doesn't begin until 2001 [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited July 04, 2000).]
So this is 2000? Don't want to count this as the New Millenium post? Mango ------------------ Eat more spinach! Live long and prosper! Donate blood! Smeg will be assimilated. Now...back to updating The Serious Police Files.
pardner, You're alive! I am honored that my post brought you out for a while. I am also glad that you find a loophole to still have a millenium post (Mango - this was not dramatic enough). As far as Bobbindoctrine - I was definitely impressed. I would love to hear from any of the lurkers you mentioned. It is my job to know about the Houston arts scene, so my discovery of it works on two levels - personal enjoyment and job knowledge. Pass it on. Spread the word. ------------------ rimbaud post-a-thon 2000 *Your Ad Here*
I think this board needs more of existentialist puppeteers. Are you a critic Rimmy? ------------------ My girl wants to ... party all the time! party all the time! party all the time!
No, Crisco, I run an art gallery, but it is all connected. ------------------ "One evening I seated Beauty on my knees. And I found her bitter." "I am a sick man...I am a wicked man. An unattractive man. I think my liver hurts."
heypartner, You wouldn't happen to be an IBP member that went to school in NYC? Rimbaud, I'm surprised you've never run across Bobbindoctrine before. Have you ever been to Diverseworks? ------------------
MC Mark: To answer your question to heypartner, I am an IBP company member who went to school in NYC. HP's a friend of ours. Do I know you? Rimbaud: All of us at Infernal Bridegroom are big Bobbindoctrin fans, too. I was delighted to see them mentioned in a cc.net forum. The next IBP show, actually, is a collaboration with Bobbindoctrin at Atomic Cafe -- same place you saw them. ------------------
Batman, No we probably don't know each other. I just remember a few "animated" exchanges on the (now defunct) "theater" forum of the Houston Chronicle I had with a certain outspoken IBP member whose initials were TS. Heypartner's unique posting style just reminded me of said individual. Is that you? ------------------
MC: Naw. That ain't me. That's my angry, young partner in IBP crime, Troy (boyfriend of Tamarie). Yes. Very outspoken. My name's Nodler. So you must be theatergeeky like us, if you were at that board, no? ------------------
Batman, Thanks for posting the info. Feel free to email me (bakunin@angelfire.com) about any upcoming shows or anything, I am definitely interested. I must admit I know nothing about IBP. I have never really beein in the theater "world" - you people are too much for me! I have always been in the studio art world - and not even in Houston until recently (although I am a native). ------------------ "One evening I seated Beauty on my knees. And I found her bitter." "I am a sick man...I am a wicked man. An unattractive man. I think my liver hurts."
Jason...er...Batman! Guilty as charged. Grew up in Houston theater, now living in NYC. Anything ever come of the S.L. Parks piece? How did it go? Must say that was an impressive coup. ------------------
sumthin fishy - I posted the above message at 10:30, but it says 8:36. Did I reall post it earlier, but just now realize my actions? A repressed memory because posting was so traumatic? yawn... ------------------ "One evening I seated Beauty on my knees. And I found her bitter." "I am a sick man...I am a wicked man.
