My Fiancé and I just decided we are going to Puerto Vallarta for our honeymoon. Just wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with this place or any tips?

It is very neat, but the water is not clear. Puerta Vallarta is right on the coast where rivers meet the Ocean and causes a lot of particles to be in the water.

However, you can take some cool boat rides and get out to some real good snorkeling and backwoods hiking. And you can rent a car and drive north to some great dining on the beach.

My wife and I went there years ago with another couple and had a blast.

Other good spots to consider for Honeymoon type deals are:

    Barbados
    St. Martin
    Florida Keys

    Have fun, and CONGRATULATIONS !!!

p.v. is beautiful and you will have a good time there, but like futants said, there are several better places along the west coast. puerto escondido in oaxaca for one - a less touristed version of p.v. with a better beach and totally b****in' waves and surfing brah.

p.v. is in the middle of a giant bay and you can go north or south along the bay to some really nice smaller towns and more secluded beaches. we did a day trip going south to to a town called yalapa(?). we hiked into the hills there to some cool waterfalls, where you can get naked with a bunch of hippies. snorkeling is really cool too - lots and lots of neat tropical fish swimming the coral reefs.

its very touristy, but relaxed - i have great memories of just laying on the beach all day drinking pina coladas and eating 2 dollar grilled shrimp-kabobs or fish.

the town is seperated by a river which runs from the mountains into the bay. it seemed that the touristy stuff like holiday inns, outback steakhouses, wal-marts and all the cruise liners were on the north side of the river. if thats your thing than great, but if you want to get off the beaten path a bit than get a hotel south of the river. we stayed in a great little place called hotel azteca, which i would recomend to anyone. its about 2 blocks south of the river. 3 beds in a spotlessly clean room for 25 bucks a night. only a 10 minute walk from the beach and a beautiful rooftop terrace with a panoramic view of the town and surrounding hills to kick it at night.

a word of advice - if you want to avoid a bunch of buff, clean shaven dudes in colorful bikini's than stay away from la playa sillas azules (blue chair beach). thats the gay beach (not that there's anything wrong with that).

    Edit: I'm I moron...

La Jolla Mismaloya is OK, but I wouldn't recommend it for a honeymoon. But if you do wind up going to to Puerto Vallarta, make sure you eat at Le Cliff one evening. Amazing food and the view is simply spectacular. It ain't cheap, though...
