Do you favor forcing all state employees to join a union and empowering government unions to take union dues directly from employee paychecks?
I don't know what a govt. un is. But I do favor state employees who benefit with their salary and pension from the hard work and sacrifice of union members to have to pay dues. It's BS that they would get the same benefits but not contribute a bit to the work expense, and sacrifice that goes into it.
Yes especially since I'd be willing to bet that most of those that answered have no idea what govt. un is.
In states that do not have right-to-work laws and allow closed shops or union shops in unionized private industries, I don't know why you wouldn't allow the same organization in the public sector.
They shouldn't be forced to join the union but they should be forced to give money to the union close to the amount of dues a union member would pay. I don't like freeloaders. If union members had to go on strike and suffer and sacrifice to get better wages, safe working conditions and benefits, and were then granted them, every person gets that salary, safe work environment and benefits. It isn't fair that some workers would put in the effort and sacrifice to get those conditions but others who didn't sacrifice anything get all the same benefits. The least they could do is pay the dues to help out. They don't have to vote with the union, or march or anything else. I understand that basso and some others may be fine with freeloaders benefiting from the sacrifice of others, but I don't like that.
True but that freeloading is spread out over time and geography, and slightly less direct. Though your point still stands.
Yes. I imagine government entities are actually harder to strike against than private corporations, so I guess the union is that much more valuable.
