Wilbon: "If someone has to go sometime soon, it aint gonna be Jeff Van Gundy The question was "Who's more valuable? JVG or Steve Of course it was Steve. not much else said. It was a quick toss up
You never win trading a superstar player to accomodate a coach. I definitely wouldn't do it for a coach without a championship. The only way you guys can win trading Steve is if you get another young superstar in return even if that means adding Mobely to the deal.
Umm if steve isnt a superstar what do u call him. Defenses are geared to stop him. He often get the best game from his opponent. He is a two time all star. He was co rookie of the year. So if hes not an allstar what do u call him??
he's popular...so he's an all-star...but he's not a superstar. i wish he were..but the superstar tag gets reserved for someone when they do something of significance. superstars get their teams to the playoffs....AT LEAST. superstars make other players around them better..he doesn't. i wish he was, though.
There is a difference between an allstar and a superstar. There are very few superstars: Shaq T. Duncan Garnett T McGrady Kobe Defenses are geared to stop him? Really? He often gets the best game from his opponents. And that's a good thing? How many times have we seen the Earl Boykins of the world torch him for career games.
You forgot Dirk...I don't see T-Mac being in this group and Dirk not being in there. Dirk's teams have had much better records than T-Mac's and if Dallas did not have so many other very good players, I bet Dirk could average the same numbers T-Mac does.
Rockets opponents like to double Francis, not because he is a scoring threat from perimeter, but because he easily turns the ball over under presure. That's a BIG difference!
I know it's not really all that important and not the original subject of this thread, but I thought Dirk's defense had improved a bit...I know these are not the only measures of defense, but he gets close to double-digit rebounds (mostly defensive rebs) and more than a steal and a block a game...
Which defense is geared to stop steve? If you've watched any games, defenses are geared to stop Yao. Gets his best games from his opponents? Its called bad defense. Co-ROY? Steve showed great promise and actually played better that year then he is THIS year...and you're celebrating that? Whatever man. Steve is a good player that doesn't have the attitude to be a leader. If you think he's a superstar then so are guys like Rip Hamilton, Carmello Anthony, Eddie Jones, Corey Maggette, and Jamal Crawford...these guys are having seasons as good as or better than the franchise.
By your standards, your team traded away a superstar (Abdur-Rahim) for a completely unproven international player (Gasol) and it seems to have worked out.
so call super stars fg % to per Kobe .422 2.43 Iverson .398 4.50 Marbury .435 3.10 McGrady .421 2.83 Kidd .395 3.15 Carter .413 3.02 Duncan .503 2.94 Garnett .491 2.60 Lebron .412 3.72 I didnt say getting the best game from your opponent was a good thing, but you dont see Shaq getting hyped up to play Calvin Booth. So the other players know what steve can do so the come in and want to show him up. I know i know steve needs to take these players seriously. All im saying is some of u guys blame steve or every thing and u need to get off his back and no im not a S.O.F. Wow look at how many T.O. Kidd averages !!!!!!!!
I don't understand, Francis is not a superstar but Abdur-Rahim is a superstar. Anyway, that is just an example of good scouting and talent evaluation and until Pau proved he was at least as good as Rahim, it was looked upon as a very dumb trade by the Grizzly.
You can't always judge a players quality just by their field goal %, Kidd is known for his passing and defense, duncan for his leadership and fundemantals, shaq for his dominance, and so on.
Not true. They double him to get the ball out of his hands. If they wanted him to "turn the ball over," they would let him keep it for as long as he wanted.
