Since it seems like a lot of people have PSPs on the board, I thought I'd make a separate thread regarding this info. Basically, in March, Sony will be offering a "PSP Connect" service that will "...enable you to download hundreds of videos, games and TV shows as well as films and other content. You'll even be able to browse from a wide selection of books." Here's some links to the information about this: http://www.engadget.com/2006/01/04/live-at-the-sony-press-preview/ http://www.sony.com/ces/e-entertainment.shtml I'm still hunting down info on this and other PSP info (think some of the Location Free TV stuff was talked about at CES as well). I imagine Sony could also release some other info about the PSP later on at CES. The PSP is becoming even more of a multimedia device I guess.
Hey RC, how is Sony doing with their PSP DVD sales? To me it seems like some thing that wouldnt go over that well, but then again what do I know?
So this is their shot at Itunes? Seems to me they would hate how Apple got a foothold with the video Ipod.
The problem is I believe that you have to get the version upgrade to use it. I don't want to give up my homebrew and emulators for this.
UMD movies have been a surprise hit, at least to me. I don't recall sales in recent months, but I know that two of the movies hit 100K in 2 months after launch, something that took DVD 11 months to do IIRC. The movie library has also gone from consisting of just Sony movies to now containing films from pretty much all the major movie studios. I thought they would bomb as well, but it seems like the opposite has happened. Well, they've had Sony Connect, a crappy Sony-music-only version of Itunes, for music. I guess now they're just expanding the services to things the PSP can take advantage of. Probably should have been put into place last March instead of this March, but better late than never. For the Connect service or the LocationFree TV? I haven't read anything on the 1st one yet, although I'm pretty sure you need 2.5 (maybe even higher) for the second. Not saying it won't happen, but I just haven't seen anything about it yet.
