I like to hope the smaller number of sold PS3 unites played a part in this. It might not have been worth all the extra work to make the PS3 version work right. Hopefully developing for the machine gets easier.

Either way, disappointing news all around.

That's one factor. I'm guessing these developers are struggling when it comes to trying to get the most out of the PS3, especially with the 360 being the lead platform (bad way to develop PS3/360 games IMO...really hurts both versions AFAIK). Doesn't help that Sony's developer support probably isn't all that great at the moment, or at least they weren't during most of the development cycle for these games (the EDGE tools were probably released too late to be used effectively for example). It would be nice if Sony could send some guys to help, as the article mentions, but I'm guessing they're already pretty busy with other things. There are ~20 games in-development by Sony to be released in 6-12 months that need some attention, not to mention other big system sellers that might be getting more attention than these games (WE/PES, MGS4, Final Fantasy, etc.).

I hope EA and 2K are able to get more out of the PS3 and the 360 since I've been kind of disappointed in their efforts so far (at least with football). It is really jarring to go from something like Lair or Gears to one of these games. At least they are offering 60 FPS gameplay now...on the 360 anyway.

Last year's version for the 360 was obviously rushed and very unpolished.. this year the 360 version should see a dramatic improvement, the ps3 version will be very uncut... and the ps2/xbox versions will still be awesome

That would be a lot of fun. We should have "official" matches and keep a running leader board. Has anyone played the latest Fifa games? It keeps track of who beats who and so forth and ranks everyone.

Would be fun to have polls before a game on who will beat who. We should do this.

NCAA has become the game I play most. I was sad when I heard this. Since only 1up reported it I am crossing my fingers that maybe it gets fixed. At least by the time Madden makes it out.

For years xbox owners had to suffer through buggy and choppy EA ports. Now the tables have turned. Shame on EA though, Japanese programmers wouldn't drop the ball this hard.

I'm pretty sure this report is true, and at this point, I doubt EA will put in the needed time and effort to get the game playing at twice the framerate before both games ship. This might cause enough buzz so that Sony may end up sending some programmers to try and help EA, although I wouldn't be expecting that either given how spread out they may already be.

Best case scenario would probably be hoping that EA figures this all out when it comes to NCAA/Madden 09 (with or without help from Sony). It did take 2 years to get it running at 60 FPS on 360, so maybe they're just really slow at this stuff. :)

The scariest thought to me is that there has been no footage of a PS3 EA football title this summer. I understand Microsoft and EA go hand in hand lately (tv shows, sponsored events), but the negative PS3 info makes me wonder if the title will suffer from crippling holes. I am uneasy as the release date draws near.

Actually the last time I played it was probably 3 yrs ago. There's some website out there that organizes online Tecmo Super Bowl leagues, w/ said updated rosters. I don't know if this has kept up today though. I'll try to search for it later...

...n/m I just found it here. Looks like that was the last year it was done. Maybe w/ some searching someone else has kept it going.

EA can't even develop a simple game as Sim City on the DS without horrible loads and in game slow down. I wouldn't hold my breath on EA producing quality games. EA = Terrible.

They've gone for quantity over quality now, sad to say. Such a shame, in the history of video game franchises Madden is right up there w/ the best of them.
