I know many people on here have PS3's so:

How do I play a .mkv movie on it? I used a program called mkv2vob to change it to a .avi file but the PS3 said corrupted data or unsupported format or something.

Has anyone ever used a program that worked?

Also I want a good racing game on the cheap. Any reccomendations?

I also have 2 games I wanna dump how much will GameStop give me?

    Madden08, MGS4

    thanks

you should convert it to a mpg file using mkv2vob not an avi file. I use it and the quality is fantastic and the mpg is actually smaller than the original mkv. It also keeps the surround sound of the mkv file to so you can watch it in dolby digital.

I thought ps3 could only see divx and avi movies.

Your mkv2vob configuration settings should be:

    Preferred Audio: English
    Video Transcoding: Automatic
    Preferred Subtitle: English
    File Splitting: None
    Output File Ext: Vob
    Transcoding Codec: x264

Boost AAC Volume and Boost DTS Volume should be checked.

The file created can be copied to your ps3 or streamed from a media server to your ps3.

I am using a FAT32 2.5" disk so I use that for splitting. Will that mess it up?

Also for Output file I chose mpg and Transcoding codec I used mpeg-2.

I will change it to what you listed as I assume the audio will be better which is the whole point. I want this sucker to be DD5.1

Use the FAT32 file splitting in the configuration options. The files should play fine. If you want the best video resolution possible (HD quality) use Vob file extension and x264 slow transcoding codec. The output audio will be DD5.1.

Welp mpg and mpeg2 worked so I will now do with your setting. For the record mpeg2 output DD5.1 but I bet x264 has a higher bitrate.

Do you have a good program to convert .avi files to mpg so I can play those also?

    Thanks!

The PS3 will play avi/DIVX/XVID. Why do you want to convert it to mpg?

For Madden 08, probably nothing. No idea on Metal Gear.

ah ok, yeah thing that sucks about sports games they are obsolete within a year.

I sold NBA 2k8 on amazon for $10 but it cost me $4 to mail it so it really wasn't worth the trouble.
