I would try to go all out and put all sorts of awesome information and stuff into this post, but there's no way I'd be able to make a better MGS4 thread than the one you can find at NeoGAF: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=303161 So go there for all the "official thread" info. Gametrailer's MGS Retrospective (5 of 6 are completed, last one should be out tomorrow AFAIK): Spoiler <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="392"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=33740"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=33740" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="true" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="392"></embed> </object> <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="392"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=34187"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=34187" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="true" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="392"></embed> </object> <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="392"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=34425"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=34425" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="true" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="392"></embed> </object> <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="392"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=34700"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=34700" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="true" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="392"></embed> </object> <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="392"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=35020"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=35020" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="true" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="392"></embed> </object> It is a nice way to summarize the series so far. If you want more, I think all the cutscenes are on Youtube: http://uk.youtube.com/profile_play_list?user=Phoenix9215987 Probably not the suggested way to check out MGS if you haven't played the games before, but not a bad way to revisit the story if you've already played them. The soundtrack of MGS4 as well as both MGS Saga specials are on Youtube as well if you use the right search terms. BTW, please make use of the spoiler tags when discussing MGS4's story, or posting screens/videos of the story. In fact, this should probably go for any important parts of the overall MGS plot in case others haven't played all of the games. On a similar note, it seems like places like Youtube, digg, etc., have a lot of MGS4 spoilers posted, although not all of them are true. Just make note of that in case you frequently visit those places but don't want MGS4 spoiled for you (might be too late though). There is a MGS4 spoilers thread at NeoGAF if you're interested in spoilers, although I haven't checked it out yet for obvious reasons. I probably won't even get the game until next week, so I'll probably bail out of this thread by tomorrow or Thursday just to be on the safe side.
I don't want to read neoGAF gamer thread crap, I prefer this for my one-stop nerd shopping stop. Epic fail, RC. EPIC FAIL. PS, spoiler- Solid Snake? Guy's a chick.
I didn't think it would be all that important, but according to some of the people who have beaten MGS4 already, it seems like the stuff that happened in MGS3 could be pretty important (maybe even more important than MGS1 and MGS2?). Of course, I'm guessing you could not play any of the games and still really enjoy MGS4. But obviously it would be better if you played through all 3 games. Probably helps to even read up on (or even play) some of the other MG games as well. But they have custom MGS4 themes, wallpapers, and avatars. How can I compete with that?
So is this bundled PS3 going to have the 65nm or 90nm processor? And what are the chances of the 40GB PS3 getting backward compatibility through an update?
Yeah I preordered this Never played the other games in the series, but watched enough videos and read enough wiki to know everything and everyone anyway....
dOods, games aren't fun anymore. It's a shame but video games have become. They are a burden and a stress...more of a chore than anything else. Remember when they were fun? I mean Super Mario, Mega Man, Street Fighter...simple thing son SNES. Now they are extremely perplex and so time-consuming. I hate games!! But yeah, I been following this game for a while. I think it's one of PS3's biggest releases so I hope it works out for them. With that said, I hope you enjoy the game very much! I remember watching my friend's brother play Metal Gear Solid for PS1...and he said it was one of the best games he's ever played. I liked the idea of Solid/Liquid brothers...that's all I know.
I will sell my soul to get my PS3 back from the guys who stole it out of my apartment.......I WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME SO BAD!! I have been a die hard fan of this series, and want to see how it pans out!!!
The regular 80GB PS3 bundle is probably 90nm, but I think the limited edition PS3 bundle uses a 40GB PS3, which would make it 65nm. They may have started producing 80GB PS3s at 65nm by now though, but I'm not 100% sure. I think the chances are pretty good since that would be how Sony was going to offer BC in the first place. But I might be a bit optimistic, and even then, I don't have any idea on when this update would be available.
This one is more about the story line. It is similar to a really good anime. Its one of those games you can enjoy watching someone play because of its great storyline. If you're just trying to have fun, i would leave this series alone. Splinter Cell's gameplay is better.
The 40GB BC is rumored to arrive in October. I will be upset if I get a 90nm processor in the 80GB PS3. The only reason I'm paying extra for the 80GB version is because of backward compatibility. If they confirm for sure that the 40GB will receive BC in October, I'll wait....again. I've got about 7 blu-ray movies waiting for a blu-ray player. The PS3 will be a blu-ray movie player first in my house. Actually, the only games I'm sure about getting for it is Street Fighter IV and God of War III.
Games have gotten more complex for sure. As a kid, when I played Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, the most complex thing I had to worry about was whether I was in the right position to do a fatality after I killed Kano. Now ggames or more complex and harder. Not as many cheat codes and press d,r,u,l,y,b for the fireball attack. It's strategy and thinking and much more complex control schemes. I could never go back to the old way. I downloaded Street Fighter on XBLA and all I wanted to do was go kill some more locusts in Gears of War.
How very, very wrong you are. Go play an NES game... any side-scroller. Guarantee you it's ten times harder than anything that passes for "hard" today. I miss games that were a *real* challenge... every game that comes out today I go straight to "hard" difficulty, and it's still too easy.
Game's almost here finally. I had only played the tanker chapter of MGS2 back when it first came out. Never played an MGS game before that. The trailers of MGS4 were too good for me to pass up, so I got the Essentials collection in March and decided to play through the MGS series. I didn't really want to play MGS1 because it was PS1 game so I read up the story on multiple sites about it. Well so here I am; I've beaten MGS2 and MGS3, and I can say that MGS3 comes awfully close to Zelda: OoT as my favorite game of all time. It was just that good. I decided to play through MGS1 even though I know the story. I'm a couple hrs away from beating it, and MGS4 comes out tomorrow. I should have all 3 of the previous games beaten for MGS4, and from the reviews and looks of MGS4, it seems like it just may be the greatest game ever made! I can't wait!
The only story games I like are final fantasy 7, 8, and 10 I think. (Final fantasy series for the most part) They are trying to reinvent their combat system and they've failed so far imo. But I really do hope for MGS4 to push PS3 sales because I think that's the better system. I don't own an any of the new generation consoles because well, I'm not goign to pay 500 bucks then 60bucks per game, especially when they aren't fun to me. I'm just waiting for reviews really, to see if this game is capable of living up to expectations after mulitple delays and setbacks.
I don't know exactly what you mean by edited, but early reviews weren't allowed to talk about certain things. Some of it made sense (don't spoil the story), although some of it was stuff Konami was just paranoid about (load/installation times, length of cutscenes, etc.). Of course, since some of that stuff will possibly change in the final release (like load times), it sort of makes sense not to make a big deal out of some minor issues that may not be final. Why would you be upset if you get a 90nm processor? All else equal, I'd prefer 65nm (runs quieter/cooler, less power consumption, etc), but it doesn't really seem like a make-or-break issue to me. That reminds that one of the posters at NeoGAF asked if anything in MGS4 was as good as the last part of MGS3, and someone who beat game said the whole game is pretty much that good. That comment doesn't really make the wait any easier though. If GTA couldn't really make much of a bump for overall 360/PS3 sales, I'm not sure MGS4 will really do that much for the PS3.
