Looks like count_dough-ku finally got his wish. ;)

FWIW, I believe the store is supposed to go live on the 15th.

DTS-HD makes this THE best blu ray player out there.

When do pre-orders for the MGS PS3 Pack become available?

Just the development I was waiting for. Now time for me to make that purchase of a Playstation 3 and bring the experience on home....or whatever.

Eh, I dont think I've even seen a SAMPLE of Blu-ray video before anywhere. But it sounds really good?

    Yes I did! :D

After the Profile 2.0 update a few weeks ago, this is really all that was missing to make this the best Blu-ray player on the market. Props to Sony for continuing to support the PS3 like this.

And it couldn't have come any sooner. Not only does every Fox title have DTS HD-MA, but New Line, Lion's Gate, and Image are also using the format.

I'm not sure if that info has been released, although some stores may already be taking pre-orders anyway. The PS Blog did have some new info about the bundles (there is a LE PS3 bundle as well) plus a few other details (US boxart) today though:

Crap I want a PS3 now!! but should i wait until the MGS4 bundle comes out? I have some BB GC's so that means the only one I can get right now is the 40GB.

i'm not too worried about backwards compatibility though.

Also here is another question. I want to plug the HDMI into my 24" LCD and the monitor has a HDMI audio output. Will that output be at least 5.1 so I can plug it into my X-fi soundcard line in and get at least 5.1 so it will play through my PC speakers?

Thats great i actually traded in my bdp-1200 sammy for a ps3 a few weeks ago.

while i miss the amazing upconversion provided by the sammy (thanks to the reon chip) i am happier with the faster load times and continued support for the ps3.

samsung still hasnt released updates for the plan and do not plan to support it for profile 2.0 and bd live so i had to give my player away to my sister/bro-in-law but at least it got me out of having to buy them a 5th year anniversary gift, well any gift for a while.

i just wont be able to take advantage of the dts-hd ma though i dont have that sort of cash for that sort of nice receiver.

Don't sweat it. If you want to upgrade your PS3 hard drive later on down the road, it is a VERY simple thing to do. I upgraded mine to a Hitachi TravelStar 200 GB hard drive also 7200 RPM instead of the 5400 that comes with the PS3. Game load times are a lot faster, and I have quite a bit more space.

I've been experimenting with converting my DVD's to MP4 (AVC) format and then transferring them to my PS3.

It's really amazing what all that thing can do. It's quickly becoming the centerpiece of my media room.

It depends on what kind of DVD's you are trying to convert. When I am dealing with unencrypted DVD's, then I always use NERO Recode (Ver. 3). It comes with NERO 8. They are really easy to convert, but sometimes the PS3 is picky about the video bitrates that you choose. You won't really be able to improve the overall product, but it won't be any worse than DVD quality. Then, you just copy the file to a storage medium (i.e. pen drive) and plug it in to the front of your PS3 and copy the file to the hard drive.

One cool thing is that if you have a DVD that has a surround sound soundtrack (i.e. Dolby Digital 5.1) then the .MP4 can keep that format and you'll hear the exact same soundtrack when you play it through your PS3. I started doing it as a side project because my wife was griping about how much (physical) space our movies were taking up in the house.

Where can I find solid instructions on upgrading/replacing the HD? Mine is the 80gb already, but I can defeinitely see the benefits of increasing that size down the road.

I've been downloading wmv-hd movies, uh... i mean movie trailers... and playing them on my ps3. The ps3 does not support windows media audio 10, so i have to strip the audio and re-encode it to wma 9, then re-mux the audio and video. I wonder if the new firmware update will support wma 10?

Unless you really want MGS4, I'm not sure I'd really worry about the MGS4 bundle. The extra space would be useful, but as mentioned, you could replace the 40GB HDD with a HDD of your own.

I might be wrong, but it seems like we're only getting the MGS4 bundle. Europe will get both a MGS4 bundle and a GTA bundle...and they already have a GT5P bundle. As you can see, they go a little crazy with bundles. :)

The PS3's manual actually has instructions on how to do this. Page 16 of the Safety and Support book. There might be some better guides online (probably with better pictures), but you could probably get by with that.

    Hey, RC

Do you know if the "Gun Metal" PS3 bundle is going to have backward compatibility? It was just confirmed for the US, but I couldn't find any details

Hmm...I could have sworn that the Gun Metal PS3 was just a 80GB in a different "shell," but apparently it is a 40GB PS3 (unlike the regular MGS4 bundle I think). Or at least that's what the Japanese version of the bundle was like according to Wikipedia. As you mentioned, there aren't many details for this bundle, so maybe the US version will be different. They mentioned something about holding out on some details for that version in the blog article I posted (the box art for example).

If it is 80GB, then it should have partial BC with PS2 games (like 80% or whatever). If it is 40GB, then it won't be compatible with PS2 games.

I have two 20GB PS3s. One in the bedroom with a Pioneer Elite VSX-81TXV receiver and an Onkyo 7.1 home theater in a box. In the living room, the other one is hooked up to an Onkyo 605 receiver with Paradigm 6.1 speakers and subwoofer.

    DTS-HD is 7.1 right?

yeah Pioneer Elite. you maybe the only one on this thread that has a receiver that costs more than some people's tvs.

I've got Pioneer..regular. I guess all that stuff down converts to regular DTS 5.1 and DD anyways.
