It's nice to see they have listened to the major complaints about the media playback feature. Hopefully they will continue to add more and more formats. http://blog.us.playstation.com/
I'd rather have wmv or xvid/divx support, mostly since I don't view too many videos that use H.264 High Profile (any videos that do use H.264/MPEG-4 happen to use the Main Profile already supported by the PS3 instead of this High Profile). I think I read more and more people are using this format though (maybe even Sony themselves in future downloadable content?), so maybe I'll change my mind in the future. I think this might allow for 5.1 audio as well, so I guess that might be a nice plus. I haven't had a chance to try media streaming on the PS3. This might be pretty important if the software out there encodes media to H.264 using the High profile instead of the main one.
Looks like rokkit passed the torch to you. How much are they paying you? I guess it's more effective to hire thousands of shills rather than fix their poorly designed system.
I hope they listen to the biggest complain of all PRICE!!!!!!!!!! Get that sucker down to $299 and I will surely buy one...
Update is available now (for me and others anyway). BTW, might as well post some more rumors on future firmware updates:
I don't know why they're half assing the mediabox option. If they're afraid of litigation, they should allow some disgruntled developer to leak a decent free Media Player.
The download for 1.82 took longer than usual last night. If I had A T-shirt right now it would be a "Wasting so much time trying to shoot out lights, you leave yourself as an open target for your ememies." Darkness trophy.
Didn't want to make a new thread for this, but a new patch and some new maps for Resistance were released today (update is free, maps are $8). Some info about the patch (taken from NeoGAF...which was probably take from somewhere else): If only I could play Resistance online. Spoiler I'd probably get killed every 5 seconds though, so maybe I'm not missing much. Sony was actually pretty active this past week for once. New demo, new firmware, new PSN game, new downloadable content, etc. They even had the GTAIV trailer available shortly after it was revealed, instead of weeks (or even months) later like they usually do. Still a lot of work needed though.
Yea it was really nice to see things I wanted to download. I heard the Goldust game was fun. I bought Calling All Cars and it was was worth the money. Not a lot of replay value but I bet it would be a lot of fun 2 player. Spoiler Haha, It's a different experience online. You should get to it when you get back to austin. Human v. Human is all you need. It's like Halo 1 in the sense that you are rewarded heavily if you have an accurate shot. Even if someone gets the jump on you, as long as you turn around and keep getting them in the head, they're dead. Chimera v. Chimera is completely different. If you don't see someone before they start shotting: you're dead. Most people like it though because their stats are better since it effectively evens out the playing field. I don't know what I am going to do now when I get into a C v. C game since it will penalize me for quiting... BTW. I hear Ninja Gaiden Sigma is as awesome. I can't count how many times i've played the demo...
Congrats. Hopefully I'll be as lucky with my PS3 and possible future 360 if they ever redesign the hardware. Here's my problem. I'm not really much into gaming as I used to be so I rarely play my systems. PS3 sitting around and gave my second Wii away because I never touched it. I'll probally purchase another Wii if they have a redesign in a year or add DVD playback. Is there really any good games for a old school gamer? I didn't really like Resistance. NFS was fun and the loads are acceptable. FNR3 load is horrendous so I quit playing it. VF5 is fun but I don't know anyone who likes that game. It was entertaining playing MK2 online for a day but I got bored real quick. I love VT3, thats probally my most played game behind NFS after I completed it. On my Wii, I have Wariorware, Zelda, MS Anthology and Wiiplay. Wiisports is the only game I end up playing but I get bored after a game or two. Played MS and quit after completion and never touched Zelda. Played the NGS demo and didnt really like it. I like the DMC series better. GT5 is a must but thats still at least half a year away. FF13 is a game I'm waiting for...although FF12 was a big disappoint to me. Well every FF series after 7 has been a disappointment so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I love the MGS + TC series, waiting for them to release the new versions. White Knight Story looks interesting and I wonder what other RPG's they have in the works. I love my NDS. Simcity is good but could've beeen great if the game didn't have worse loading times than a CD game. EA is officially the laziest developers ever. Contra 4 looks pretty sweet and FF RW is nice (played the Jap ver.). Zelda PHG is going to be awesome. I'm not sure what I'm basing it on since I haven't played a Zelda since Link to the Past on SNES -_- I'll end up purchasing a PSP for MH2 when it's released here or end up with the PC version depending on which is better. I'm derailing the thread big time, but this is the only thread about video games. I don't like the current trend. Developers creating mini games/games with minimal effort to make a quick buck on the Wii. PS3 receiving bad ports, understandable I guess but Resistance made me say WOW despite the meh gameplay. Microsoft dropping mega moneyhats to gain market share. Guess I shouldn't be suprised. Their like the Yankee's/Trailblazers of the sports world. What surprised me, but not most people who played it prior to launch was the current/continual success of the Wii. I guess I've bought into the hype myself since I used to own two of them Ooo....useless ranting. Want your 5 minutes back? Tough luck.
if you like online games then get a 360. gears, halo, shadowrun, they are all fun. plus the arcade stuff is cool, like streetfighter and pacman. i like the old school.
ummm, if you like online games and don't want to shell out 50 bucks a year, get a PS3 JK. Well Kinda. From now on, cross platform games with online multiplayer will make it to both Xbox Live and the Playstation Network. Don't let Tinman's false VF5 promises trick you into getting a 360. Lies I say! Sony has a deal with Midway for some of their classic games and they keep adding games from the PS1 library to the PS Store. And more is to come by the end of the year. Point is, Online gameplay doesn't really support one system or the other at this point. (Except for price!)
Yeah, I definitely plan on putting in some time with Resistance when I get back to Austin. I loved the single-player campaign, and I'm a little sad that there isn't really much else that I can do with the game (doesn't help that there's not much else out there on PS3 that I really want to play at the moment). I'll probably replay through it to get all the intel documents for the real story, not to mention the secret weapons I get to play around with. I hope the matchmaking for the game is pretty good, especially for FPS beginners. I'm OK at FPS games in general (as if I could tell w/o playing online), but Resistance is the first console FPS I ever put much time in, outside of the occasional match of Halo I would play with some friends. I died a couple times during the first few levels just trying to figure out the controls. Yeah, that was the first demo I downloaded, and I loved it too (Hot Shots Golf gets a lot of playing time from me too for some reason). I never played the NG games on the Xbox, so now I can sort of understand all the appreciation the game has received. Mine is RC_Cola. As I said before, I won't be playing anything online for a while, so people should keep that in mind if they want to add me. There's supposedly around 15 RPGs in-development from Japanese developers. Along with both FF13 titles, WKS, SO4, and The Last Remnant, there are also RPGs coming from Bandai-Namco, Gust, Nippon Ichi Software and Takuyo. Not sure if those count Sony's own studios in Japan that are working on RPGs, or if it counts titles like FolkLore (which is technically an action-adventure game and not a RPG). I think there were some niche .hack-like RPGs announced for Japan this past week for the PS3, although I didn't think they looked all that promising. And even if they did, they would never be localized for the US.
