http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=16721 I guess that is good enough confirmation. I almost posted the original CC ad, but it didn't seem like enough. We'll find out for sure soon enough.
Great Great news for Sony.. They are headed in the right direction but probably will only see a moderat increase in sales. Does the PS3 come with a free game? I would think about buying one if it was $399 and definately if it was $299...
don't hold your breath. even with ps3 dropping the price, 360 is still cheaper and has more games available. The price drop doesn't help the PS3 that much!
Considering the 360 had a year head start, your stating the obvious (xbox fans love to keep bringing up this point, I wonder why that is hmmmm?). Just because the 360 has more games, doesn't mean their good games. Ps3 in it's first 8 months has more diverse quality games than the 360 during the same period. There is ONE game that interests me on the 360, which is going to be probally released on the system's 3rd year. That game would be Lost Odyssey. If 360 redesigned their system and this game is out, I would be all over it like white on rice. Back on the topic on hand, this is good news. I'll definately be purchasing my second ps3 this fall for my bro since he's a cheapskate.
Just searched and saw the PS3 (unofficially) costs $494 to even make, if not more. This unit markdown HAS to work for them. And they still have to count on the buzz to spread into sales of games and the peripherals to make the profits. I dont think they want to be facing a winter time price drop if their units and games fail to adequately sell...
Good decision, but it isn't low enough for me. I'll buy one when they cost $350.00 or less. In May when Sony tacitly acknowledged there would be a price decrease, I knew right then they wouldn't wait until near Christmas. Rarely do companies flag a price decrease 6 months in advance. Microsoft will probably follow suit with some kind of decrease on the 360.
i liked the PS3 when I had it, for everything except the games. Just the sound alone is way better than the 360. HDMI out the box was good, bigger harddrive. But I filled it with mostly music. So it was just a big black mp3 player for the few weeks that I had it. I loved the PS2, some people called me a sony fanboy, which is BS cause I had a GC and XBox1 and liked them both. Sony has just screwed up alot things for themselves with the PS3, it was really disappointing. And I cannot justify spending $500 on it. Theres really no use for it. Only game worth mentioning is Resistance, cause Motorstorm got old FAST! So i traded it to someone on the board for a 360! I had a 360 but it died so I decided to trade the ps3. I hope things work out for the PS3, but I won't be buying one anytime soon.
Yeah, I guess maybe that was in anticipation of this price cut (getting rid of the $500 PS3), but it's a shame that it isn't still around; lowering the price of that in addition to this would make more of an impact. It's a move in the right direction, but the PS3 was 500 already...and still didn't move as many units. Probably still not going to make much of an difference but at least they are finally addressing the situation.
Too bad. If it retailed at 350, I bet there'd be some good deals floating for 300. That would definitely put a positive spin against the PS3 haters.
No game included at this point. I'm sure we'll get some deals like that for the Fall though. Surprised we haven't gotten a bundle already actually (Japan and Europe have gotten multiple bundles IIRC...may not have been good deals though). There are places that are giving out 5 free Blu-ray movies with a purchase of a PS3 though. The original CC ad mentioned in the link promoted this IIRC, and there's also a coupon offering something similar in the latest EGM I believe. Well, that's certainly an unofficial estimate alright. Hmm...not sure what to think of any possible price cuts on the 360 given their decision to extend warranties on every system. That is supposed to cost them ~$1B IIRC. That might make it a little more difficult for MS to justify a price cut this year, especially if they are really trying to get the division into the black (would be difficult to make a profit even without the warranty extensions). They may not let that affect their overall plan on when to cut the 360's price though. They certainly weren't going to do one until Sony blinked first though, and now that they have, it is time to see if Microsoft will respond. I guess they could always do a $50 price cut at the very least. Given the 360's sales and how long it has been out in addition to this news, it seems foolish to think that they won't do something before the year is out. It was being phased out on November 17th, 2006. Already touched on this in my response to Invisible Fan above, but I don't think that the $500 PS3 moved any units because there were no units to do the moving. I don't think this will propel Sony to success either, but I don't think we really know how well a $500 PS3 sells. FWIW, if they still had the 20GB PS3 (or if they bring it back), I don't think they'd price it as low as $350. Probably $400 to match up with the 360 Premium. That would probably still create a lot of buzz though, especially if Microsoft didn't cut the price of the 360. That's why I think they should bring it back, although I doubt they will.
That's a good start, Sony. Now release Tourist Trophy 2 (as a stand-alone motorcycle game, don't just put motorcycles in GT5), and I may well buy one.
