So have any of you sleepyheads noticed any drastic differences between the 2?

Is the gameplay noticably different? The graphics?

I have convinced myself to just wait for the price to drop. I was told that you can get a DC with both NBA and NFL 2K for only $180. That's just an awesome deal and I don't think I can pass that up.

I never got a DC when it came out because I was just going to wait for the PS2. But I began playing NBA and NFL 2K at my friends house and I have become hooked. Crazy Taxi and Ready to Rumble are also great games.

Has anyone played Madden on PS2? Is it better than 2K?

    Enquiring minds want to know!

Ok, So Im friends with a Manager of Babbages. And I got all kinds of time on PS2. I also owned a Dreamcast.

    Let me say this.

Games that are out on both platforms.

Ready2Rumble. A tad bit of difference. Barely noticable, and not noticable if your not looking for it. Graphics are touched up a miniscule bit. They added a few things to the game, but overall the same game Looks and play wise.

Dead or Alive 2. Again, no noticable play or Graphic difference. Some different features and game play were added. But nothing different.

Overall I wasnt impressed with Metal Gear solid either. Didnt look much better than the original playstation game.

What I am impressed with is NFL2k1 For Dreamcast. Worlds better than Madden 2001.

Overall, their both 128 bit machines with abilities that game makers cant fufill with current game programs. So overall at least to me, they are the same.

Con to the Playstation 2. Price. Yeah, yeah DVD. More pixels. I already have a DVD player, and if you want a DVD, go to Wal Mart and buy a decent Panasonic one for about 150 dollars. And I dont believe the Human eye can see much of a difference between Dreamcast pixels, or PS2 pixels.

Pro to the PS2. Play all your old games on its unit.

All in all If you believe Sega will survive the PS2 rush, then by all means go for the better deal in the Dreamcast. They are lightyears ahead of PS2 as far of titles, and the price is just way better, for a system that has almost the same abilities.

I've obviously never played the PS2, but the main difference I can tell right now is the fact that the PS2 has a DVD player.

Actually, that leads to a question for PS2 owners. What kind of features does the PS2 DVD have?

Also, when you play the old games, are the graphics better ?

Yeah, you can. The PS2 is backwards compatible.

gr8-1: There may be some improvements in the graphics department when you play some PSX games on the PS2, but at best they will be minor.

I think the point of comparing the two systems right now is pointless. Wait until at least next summer when the full potential of the playstation 2 hardware is fully realized.

As of now, though, I'd say graphically, things are a wash. I can't really give an edge to either system from what I've seen so far. Sound quality, however, with the optical cable. No contest. Playstatiion 2 rocks. Controls; I'm kinda partial to the platstation pad and quite frankly, the DC one is akward as hell. I am, however, disappointed at the poor title selection and seemingly lack of any standout games so far. But that's the way systems are when they first come out (except for the flagship title, which the ps2 seems to lack, but so did the original ps).

    Anyways, that's my assessment.

Oh, and the only ps game I saw on PS2 was Vagrant Story. Both visually and aurally, I was VERY impressed on how good it was.

Well, if it is going to be next summer before the full realization of the PS2 hardware occurs, then I'll just wait until next summer to think about buying one.

    Actually...

There are more advantages to buying a PS2 than you guys are mentoning.

    1) There is hookups to DSL if you upgrade your internet connection. I think Sega has this option. But...

    2) Here is where the levels for PS2 go above and beyond. First, you get a DSL hookup. Then, you buy an external harddrive. Well, not only will online gaming be rockin with an overall faster system, but you will be able to buy and download games right into the external HD that the PS2 has. Want more?

    3) The DVD compatibility is not only for watching movies. Its for games also. In about a year, they will start releasing games which use DVD power. Meaning, if you like DVD movies because of all the sweet sound and resolution(and who doesn't), then imagine playing a game with that type of look?! Now that, my friends, is where the juice comes in. Sega won't be able to carry PS2's capabilities into the gym...err your house.

One last thing, there is a rumor which looks like is true that PS2 will let out a mod chip to attach inside of the PS2 and allow the old games you played on the old one to look up to 12 times better on the new one. IF that ends up being true, me and my 30 or so games will be going to get one of these babies.

It can crunch numbers twice as fast as an Apple G4. It sports a 24X-CD ROM drive. It delivers impressive and smooth graphics that rival high-quality film and the best 3-D animations.---CNN.COM

And don't bother with the GameCube. How many of you waited for Nintendo 64 instead of buying the first Playstation only to be like "DAMN"? Exactly. Nintendo has better quality games? Compared to who? Nintendo has Mario based games and Zelda based games and GO Carts and JetSki...yeah, thats about it. Did any of you line up to buy one of these? Did any of you anticipate a N64 game? Don't think so. Playstation has so many different varieties and genres its not even funny. There is a game called SoulBlade that came out in 1995 and I still play almost every day because there are so many different moves, blocking schemes, offensive and defensive styles and fighting and weapons...on and on and on. Nintendo has its day. Sony is the king now.

And XBox? Well, if the hype is true, we are all going to be blown away. Every major gamemaker has already started making games for the console. Visit their website(which is really cool) and look at it all. http://www.xbox.com/xbox/flash/home.asp

I chose PSX over N64 because N64's controls are so wierd , PSX2 kept the same buttons which I like dreamcast tried new things like the memory card in the controler which not to many people found amusing . The Playstation 2 is a solid investment though , I mean you Get an Audio Compact Disc Player a Playstation and Playstation2 software player and a DVD movie Player all in one .

Im one of the few, but I like N64 much better than Playstation. The types of games are just way to different. And the types of games I like are multiplayer games. Why in the world wouldnt Playstation put 4 slots on their new one. I mean, not only would it allow at least the possibility of having more than two poeple play (and dont give me the you an buy a hookup thing) it would also ensure more sells of controllers, which is another area where they really rip you off. Plus, I do think Nintendo64 has better "hit" games than playstation. Mario, GoldenEye, MariCart, PerfectDark, Zelda, are all great games and few, if any, playstation games beat it.

I guess if youre the type of guy who likes to sit down by yourself for a while and play games the playstation is better. But I while I have both, I like the Nintendo64 better.

Oh, please. The N64 had better hit games?!? This from the system whose best RPG was Quest 64?? LOL!!

Ok, so maybe I'm a little biased because I'm a big RPG fan, but the N64, IMNSHO, blew chunks.

Role playing games, in my opinion, blow chunks. I mean, I just dont understand the point. They are not fun to me, especially because they are only one for one person. I tried to watch my friend play Final Fantasy 8 last year, and it was the most boring thing I have ever seen. And the graphics certainyl did not make up for it. But that is just my opinion. I agree that if you are a big RPG fan, then the playstation is better. But, since I am not, I like the Nintendo64 better.

    Them's fightin' words... [IMG]

I don't have a console, but RPG's aren't necessarily for one person. Online such as Everquest and Ultima and barely-an-RPG game like Diablo are multiplayer games. It's what makes it fun. Multiple people adventuring through forsaken lands on quests... uh... or somethin' like that.

I also enjoyed my N64 more than my PSX (but the PSX is also good) for the exact same reason as JayZ. It blew chunks in the RPG department (and RPGs are my favorite genre) and the fighting department (no N64 fighter approached the quality of Soul Calibur for Dreamcast, most of the Tekken games, many of the Street Fighter games, etc.). Otherwise the N64 kicked butt. IMO of course.

On the other hand, Quest 64 is probably the worst RPG I've ever played.
