Not sure if that's the official name for it, but it's a damn fine brew. Buck Turgidson was telling me about this on Saturday and I picked up some for a housewarming party we went to last night. I didn't want to share.

Is this a seasonal beer or is it around for the long haul?

This could also double as an official beer recommendation thread if you wish.

i think it's a yearly offering, but i could be wrong. a great regional brew is real ale's fireman 4.... been out for a few years but they just started bottling it last summer i believe.

some real god winter ales are:

    st. arnolds christmas
    sammy smith winter welcome (awesome)
anchor brewing's merry christmas/happy new year (also awesome)
delerium noel (all deleriums are fantastic, imo)
sierra nevada celebration ale gets a lot of love, but i happen to think it's overrated.

i wish you could get 3 floyds down here.... apparently they turn out some fantastic beers.

I wanted my Dad to try the St. Arnolds Christmas when he was here over Christmas, but they were sold out at the last place open on Christmas Eve. Bummer. I really haven't had a St. Arnolds beer that I didn't enjoy. I dig the Wheat and Lawnmowers a lot.

If I can pull myself away from the Shiner Black, I'm going to try the Anchor beer for the Rockets game tomorrow. As far as Shiner Black being a yearly offering, if I remember what Buck said Saturday, it originally was that, but he thinks it's going to be around for good now. Which will make me very happy.

It was released as Shiner 97 last year (they're doing an annual beer up to 100 to commemorate their centennial). It's back for good due to popular demand. The 98 that's out now is a Bavarian Amber, it's tasty, but not as good as the black.

Their dunkelweizen, which I believe is seasonal each winter, is also tasty.

    Glad you liked it, dude.

Agreed on the Fireman's 4, SWT; great stuff, and the brewery in Blanco is a nice visit. Very good people.

I think the Dunkel is probably my favorite of the Shiner beers...

I tried Shiner Black for the first time last week, good stuff. I'm normally not a big fan of Shiner's offerings so I was pleasantly surprised.

Last night when I was at BW3's I saw they had a Saint Arnolds Stout on tap. Anyone had it? Like RM95, I haven't found a Saint Arnolds brew that I didn't enjoy.

Saint Arnold's Winter Stout? I tried it because I really like Saint Arnold's Brown Ale and Christmas Ale. I didn't like it, but that might not mean much I don't like many stouts.
