from the Guardian and further discussion at Volokh Conspiracy. Ilya Somin argues that many of the reasons we don't let children vote apply to many adults as well. https://reason.com/volokh/2018/12/07/should-we-let-children-vote-the-troublin more at the link
Cleverly disguised some adult shouldn’t vote thread. 6 years old should be able to vote. Mister, what’s your favorite super hero and ice cream flavor?
I literally said all of this to @dachuda86 in the other thread. After he incorrectly asserted that education was the issue, I said of all of this. I even said the bit about passing citizenship tests too. Did someone just steal my posts and turn them into a news article?
I'm sold. Let's lower the voting age. The answer obviously is not to disenfranchise adult voters. Democracy works on the principle of the wisdom of crowds. Voters are just price takers in the electoral market. The power doesn't lie with the voter but with the marketer who can aggregate them. The kid vote is just one (or more) market segment that a broker can choose to market to. If a politician can win by promising more Saturday morning cartoons (or whatever is the 21st century equivalent, lol), it wouldn't be any more pathetic than Lock Her Up and Build That Wall.
