No more 1-10 from each judge

Make each judge pick a number between 35-50 and average it out between the 5 people.

Because now a days it's really hard to decide if a dunk is a 10 dunk or a 9 dunk. It makes more sense to say if it's a 45 dunk or a 48 dunk.

For example Demar's first dunk was more like a 47 dunk

Anything that makes it harder for the judges to collude and give free passes to certain players. I'm assuming most judges can't handle any arithmetics other than simple addition.

think its an idea in the right direction.

perhaps adding a degree of difficulty system, ala diving?

i hate the multiple attempts to do the dunk. sure, it helps them push the boundaries a bit, but it really lets the excitement out of the building.

It's a catch-22. If you let them attempt too many dunks it does kill the anticipation. But if you don't let them attempt those multiple dunks, all their attempts would be bland and they'd just play it safe all throughout the contest.

    -Take away fan voting

-Deduct x number of points for any missed dunks after two. It's disgraceful that you can get 3+ attempts and still get a 50.

-Limit the props; take away the 'hype men'. It just distracts people from the actual dunk (see Griffin's last mediocre dunk).

-Focus more on wings than big men. I'm just not that impressed by 6'11-7' guys dunking. They don't need nearly as much hang time as other players do, which in my mind really makes the dunk.

Someone here posted the idea of a dual contest in which you take the 4 best dunkers and the 4 best shot blockers and rate them both.

I know that no longer becomes a pure dunk contest, but I think that would really interesting and exciting.

    - DEFINITELY deduct points after a certain number of missed dunks. The 9th attempt is NOT the same as the 2nd second attempt.

    - Decimal and fractional scoring needs to happen, no more broad number 8-9-10 scores.

    - Since its only 4 dunkers, do NOT HAVE ELIMINATION ROUNDS. Let them ALL get their full allotment of dunks in.

Just call it was it is - the dunkers are now putting ON A SHOW for the fans. And the contest is secondary. People WANTED to see Serge Ibaka and Derozan's next dunks cuz they were quality dunkers and added entertainment value. And probably were better than the winners

    - All 4 dunkers get THREE dunks not 4, and may the highest score win. So the contest doesnt drag out and no one gets cheated, the dunkers or the fans.

    - I'm okay with props and gimmicks since its basically a dunk show posing as a contest. "Contest" can imply pageantry and theatrics. But all that doesnt mean anything when everyone just wants to see ONE player win no matter how bland he is.

Just don't eliminate players. It may make the contest longer, but oh well.

Fan voting and player-judges are both equally bad. It also doesn't help that they'll just flock to the biggest name.

Not a good idea. Shot blockers have good timing on blocks. Especially if it's one on one when you know the other guy is trying to dunk.

Basically going to be a layup contest.

    I like this point.
So all the players can have his three dunks, and doesnt matter which one you leave as a last dunk, because all would count anyway.

    Definitely no fan voting

Three tries per dunk maximum, and deductions for the 2nd and 3rd attempt

i would definitely like to let each vote be on a 50 point scale and average it out. right now, you see a dunk and might think "that's a 46" but as a judge do you give a 9 and just assume someone will be the 10 or do you give the 10 and assume everyone else will give the 9. then 3 other guys give a 10 and suddenly a decent dunk is a 49 because of some subconscious game theory scenario where everyone is trying to score based on how they think everyone else will score it instead of just giving their opinion.

granted, it takes away the simplicity of holding your score up quickly because it would be harder to flip through so many scores and wouldn't be quite as dramatic if it was scored on a screen or something electronic.

all these rule proposals will unintentionally make it seem like an actually important event

it's not, they're clowns, they're there to amuse us

personally I want to see one of those players dunk over a skank holding a baby upward, for the tongue in cheek humor, wouldn't that be a great dunk?

Nothing that you cannot do in a regular game should be allowed. You shouldn't be able to commit a violation on the way to the dunk, or use props. come on... y'all really take this seriously?
    ^ Agreed.
