What up BBS- got into a rather drunken argument about what proper etiquette is for tearing down goalposts. I told a friend that when Texas beats Ohio State in less than 2 weeks that we should all run onto the field and tear down the goalpost in the student section. He didn't see it as a goal post tearing-down occassion because we are the defending national champs and it wouldn't be that big of an upset. My argument is that if we beat the number one team in the land at home closely or even by blowout it is still cause to tear down the goalposts. I'd like to know who is with me for tearing down the goalposts after a Texas win over tOSU and what your particular rules are for tearing down goalposts or rushing a court after a big basketball win are.
I don't know what's dumber, tearing down a goalpost or actually believing that there is etiquette involved...
You guys can watch me storming the field and taking down the goal posts this Saturday night on ESPN. Book it!
God I hope so. Major and I have discussed this a few times. I'm on the fence on this. It'd be cool to see it done, but I could just imagine the haters afterwards. I mean, you see how they reacted to the Godzillatron.
There's no way that you'll get enough people on the field to tear down the goal posts. Security will be crazy. Mack Brown won't want the fans doing it so there will be strict security. As far as etiquette, goal posts should definitely stay up. We won the national championship and we're loaded again so it won't be a big upset if we win whether they are ranked #1 or not. There may be a few rowdy fans that want to storm the field, but not enough to overcome the tight security that will be there. Good luck though!
Only on an opponents' field with the reasoning being inproper etiquette in an upset. UT can't upset anyone currently.
Bingo. I'll be just as excited as the next Longhorn if we beat tOSU, but leave tearing down goal posts to small schools upsetting a major program. Beating #1 tOSU would be great, winning another NC would be even better.
I really don't think you'll have to worry about the decision to tear down the goal post at this particular game.
"The Buckeyes are unbeatable at night in the Shoe" 31-28 UT. "Ginn is faster than anyone in college football and can't be contained" 2 Receptions for 9 yards. "Hawk and Company are gonna take VY and the offense out of Heisman contention" VY 270 yards passing, 100 yards rushing. Billy Pittman-5 catches for 170 yards.
Wonder how many free punches and kicks the local cops will get in on the kids trying to "breach the peace" and "trespass" in the stadium. Meet your new best buddy.
Championship after a reasonably long drought or if you're a minor taking down a major in an upset. UT-OSU doesn't qualify. It's a huge game, but not post-worthy. Instead, light on fire all nearby cars with OSU flags using leftover tailgating supplies. Evan
I have a question: let's say we my team wins a national championship on the opponents turf and there are hundreds of us rushing the field. Let's say its an absolute mob and security is preoccupied with the dudes tearing down the goalposts and flinging faeces at the opposing team; when I go to molest the opposing team's cheerleaders, how far can I go with groping? do I just go to second base? can I tear their top off? or can I go any farther? Should I cover my face with a ski mask or just wear my hat with the brim down? I got in an argument with my friend on the proper etiquitte for groping, I think that if I get to the hot cheerleader first, I got dibs on whatever I want to grope first. HE SAYS, that its a mob, there are no rules and its stupid to think there is supposed to be a queue forming for guys that want to grope this chick's luscious fun bags. I don't think thats fair, because if a bunch of guys are groping, all I'm going to get is man hands in my way. I don't know, I think Wal-Mart Black Friday rules apply here, but he thinks this is a mob level above that where rules don't apply, closer to Puerto Rican day in NYC. Thoughts?
PS guys, I'm not talking about the UT game. I'm talking about a game that would be a real upset. It's this saturday night on ESPN, think about it for a minute...and when you figure it out, don't tell me I'm crazy...the upset is going to happen, baby!!
My freshman year I took a class taught by the UT VP. That year we upset Nebraska at home (99). Before class started everyone was discussing the big win. I asked her why we weren't allowed to tear down the goal posts. Troopers made a chain around the goal posts as the final seconds ticked down. Her response...liability.
