I am thinking about getting a projector for my bedroom becuz I have a big unsed wall across from my bed and a friend gave me the idea. Does anybody have experience with these? Are movies just as good? TV? Can you play PS3 on there just like a TV? What features should I look for?
Yeah, that's a great idea.... make sure you get a brand name projector though.. don't get one of those crappy no-name companies... you just need a white screen then.. a cheap one would be nice.. just make sure it's thick.... and everything else is optional.. like AMP, surround sound and stuff like that... PS3 and all that extra stuff.. you'd need to buy an AMP (amplifier) that basically has a lot of inputs for video/audio. 1080P on the projector... for sure... Phillips and Sony are pretty good.. also Samsung is coming out with a new line... try and get a high Contrast Ratio also... this all depends though on how much you're willing to pay for it.
need to cough up around a grand for a good projector, but you could probably craigslist one and get a bargain. Depends on what kind you get, the one I had needed a mediapc and cables that cost like 300$$
A giant screen TV kind of seems like a waste if it's going to be in your bedroom instead of another common room. Unless you're using it for p*rn. In that case, nice.
I have an Optoma HD projector and it works great. We'll be using it tonight out by the pool for a dive in movie for my daughters slumber party for her birthday. Do you think 9 year old girls will like Jaws while floating in the pool?
It really depends on what you want and your room environment. You can get decent projectors in that range, but the better ones with more recent technology will run you $1500 and up. You also may want to make sure you don't have too much light coming into the room or all the colors/picture will be washed out. I'm guessing this is a bedroom, so it'll be a small room. In which case, how big can you make the picture? If I'm about 8-10 feet away, I don't think I'd want a 90"-120" picture to look at. If it's a bedroom, I'd rather just get a tv, but that's me.
I got the same one. Its 1080p on 122" electric 6 gain screen. 6 home theater seats 3 in the front, and 3 in the back on a custom pedistal lift, black leather, recline. Sweetness for all occasions.
well my room is decent size. it is roughly 12x20. You can shine those things on a wall right? If is really smooth and painted shiny white? You don't have to but the screen at max do you? I would just like to make it like 45 55" diag. I was looking at spending like $300 or $400 on like craigslist or something so I might just need to save more.
That's a room that's pretty good sized and has good dimensions for a home theater, but you won't be using it for that from the sounds of it, so yeah. You can throw it up on the wall if you want. Just don't expect the greatest picture. The best thing about it is you can try it with no screen and if it's ok, do nothing else. If you want something better after seeing it, you can get the screen paint to paint the wall (if you don't care what that wall looks like - hehe) or get a screen. The other thing you'd need to watch out for buying used is if the lamp in the projector burns out - no telling how long it's been used. Research the model you're getting before you buy it. Don't just say "it fits into my budget, I'm buying it".
some things to consider: 1) how are you going to mount the projector? are you going to fix it to the wall/ceiling or set it on a table? 2) (already mentioned) are you planning on just shooting it on the wall? 3) what is the primary purpose of the projector? movies, games, or tv?
If you have a decent HD projector, a good source (i.e. Blue Ray or a DVD player that is good at up-scaling) and a decent screen (could be just your wall as long as it is smooth and the color/reflectivity works for you) it will be awesome. We have a projector in our den and we love it. The negatives of a projector are that you have to have the room dark, especially for movies. Certain things (like sports) are okay with ambient light if you crank the brightness of your projector but TV and movies will require a dark room so the blacks look black.
What about the bracket--or whatever that's called--to suspend the projector? Is that expensive? Do they have swiveling ones where you can move the screen around if you ever need to?
Thank you, DaDarkOne. Also, about how much will an automatic screen cost as compared with one you manually pull down. Also, is it easy to move that screen around? I've seen screens on easels, but I am thinking I might want to hang with hooks from the ceiling . Are we talking 10, 20, or 30 pounds of weight?
Link to universal swivel mount...$39.99 When I looked for screens I got a 100" one that pulls down for my outdoor theater.....for I think $80. Here is the link for the one I got Ultra 100" for $64 DD
i can't speak on the portable screens, but the wall, and ceiling mounted screens are really nice. http://www.da-lite.com/products/
