1. Miami 2. Ohio St 3. Oklahoma 4. Washington St. 5. Texas 6. Georgia Just saw this on ESPN Sportscenter... I'm sure this makes all of the UT fans happy!
I don't agree with putting WSU ahead of Texas...but OU I can see. After all OU beat Texas. So long as they are both 1 loss teams I would put OU ahead of Texas.
Here's a pretty good analysis of the BCS situation and what each team needs: http://espn.go.com/ncf/s/2002/1110/1458803.html I agree that OU may need to lose again. It wouldn't hurt if we got a chance at the B12 title, although I'm not sure I want to really play Colorado or, even worse, KSU again.
Been through this in another thread. BCS means nothing now, though I'm sure everyone will overreact like crazy, as usual. Texas will probably move up to 3rd in the AP if they beat Texas Tech convincingly, and WSU down to 4 or 5. Texas also took a temporary hit in the computer polls and SOS from playing Baylor... it will rise next week after playing Tech. I used to enjoy seeing the BCS every week... now I wish it would only come out at the end of the season. It's no big deal until then, unless there's evidence to suggest the computers, SOS, and human polls will stay unchanged, which there is not.
But even then you still have the fact that OU beat Texas head to head. It has always been difficult for me to rank a team behind a team they beat unless it was clearly a fluke (like A&M beating OU).
I don't know... While UT lost to OU, OU lost to an unranked team... I think that's convincing enough for UT to rank above OU... if it is done any other way, it will be a travesty.
It doesn't matter whether OU beat Texas it depends on who OU lost to. Texas and Oklahoma have one loss, but the fact that Oklahoma's loss is to an unranked team weighs more on the fact that they beat Texas.
Texas had a chance to prove on the field that they are a better team than OU. They did not do it. OU proved that day that they were the better team. OU matches up well against Texas. If both teams have one loss and Texas gets into the Fiesta Bowl instead of OU...then OU will have a legitimate gripe.
Imo, OU over UT = A&M over OU if: UT over A&M OU proved it was the better team against Texas and Texas will prove its the better team against A&M.
Should that happen that still doesn't clear up the pesky little OU beat Texas and should be ranked ahead of them issue.
Yes, that is correct. This situation is similar to the one in 2000 where Miami beat FSU head to head, but FSU got to go the Orange Bowl aka NC Game anyway to play OU. That is when the BCS came up with the "Quality Win" or bonus point component. I think both teams (Texas and OU) SOS's will be about the same, and their computer rankings will probably be very close. Unless Texas is ranked like #2 or #3 in the polls and OU is like #6, I think it may come down to the bonus points of OU beating Texas & actually Texas getting ranked higher and higher makes those bonus points higher as well. However, once again, Ohio State or Miami has to lose. I think OSU will lose either to Illinois or Michigan. Miami will probably have another scare, but I think they win out (at least I hope they do). A WSU loss would be nice for Texas fans, as well, though.
It gets cleared up with the pesky little 'what have you done for me lately'. Maybe they should move the OU game to Thanksgiving since the A&M game isn't what it used to be, and OU-UT cane be resolved when it matters most.
I think that totally removing point-spread is a loser for the BCS. If a team wins by 21 or 42, it shouldn't have much bearing. But if a team can only win by a few points, it is relevant to assess the team's strength.
Any chance if Miami and OSU wins out that OU and UT play each other in a BCS bowl? Also, FWIW, Texas Tech controls its own destiny for a BCS Bowl as well.
And Oklahoma had a chance to prove they were the #1 team in the country and they lost to an unranked team. Until they get a playoff system things are what they are. The #1 team in the country, or even a Top 5 team, can't lose to an unranked team and then gripe that they should be ranked ahead of the #3 team that lost to a Top 5 team. Even if that Top 5 team is Oklahoma. OU doesn't have a gripe at all. They want to be ranked in the Top 3 don't lose to an unranked team.
