I guess we're pseudo-Wasps now? I'm actually a bit more confused on why this has to be exclusively for minorities. I knew plenty of poor white folks who could have used this also.

Asians are getting it from both ends, it sucks to be Asian in the US. We get no minority benefits and are not treated the same as the whites.

I had the feeling that nobody really cares about Asians much.. everything was always focused on African American and Latino.

tsk tsk, this makes me sad, no matter which race you are, we all want our children to learn and succeed in life.

this is so wrong, the daughter being in Brooklyn Tech means she is a very bright kid, brooklyn tech is just behind Stuyvesant as the best high school in the NYC area.

they need to look into this, its unjust

i dont understand why they cant make these programs based on economic conditions, like if the family's gross income is under $--,--- than they could be admitted to such programs.

Perhaps the Asian community doesn't have established voices in this country like the Blacks and Latinos. Or because they are viewed more as Foreign immigrants, and not urban underpriviledged.

Completely agree. Trying to "fix" past racism but current racism. Now that is screwed up logic right there.

Because the poor Asians and poor Whites would dominate the program, but they never try to fix the root cause of the problem.

I believe the dept of ed made a concerted effort to increase the number of african-american and latinos in the specialized high schools. they originally tried to lower the test score requirements, and then tried changing the tests because of some complaints that it wasn't fair to african-american and latino students. however, i thought they stopped those efforts once the high courts ruled that they couldn't try to skew things in favor of a particular race.

That actually is 100% true. One of the reasons why I can't really hate on Al Sharpton that much is that despite his over the top racializing of everything under the sun, he at least keeps the gov't on its toes.

It's time to give up on our hopeless efforts to provide blacks and hispanics' affirmative action policies. Until their families (well, in the case of blacks, their moms and grandmothers...) start to focus on education, I don't see why we all have to piss away our tax monies trying to help them.

But at what point does the playing field become level? Are we pushing for equality or just giving a few smart kids a chance to overcome their surroundings? Why pick and choose a select few and leave the others behind because they aren't worth it. I do not understand a lot of these minority-preffered policies. Seems like a higher form of racial discrimination.

That would never happen, because Asians value hard work instead of b!tching and moaning and demanding hand outs and others' guilt like Al Sharpton does.
