Would you trust somebody named myputersux with help in computers? J/k. I agree with what he said, though. Your biggest problem is why your OS is only reporting 2 GB. Also check your BIOS to see that you've enabled large block support, too. Then auto-detect your drive and see what it reports. Stop installing any new software until this is done as you may have to nuke your hard drive. ------------------ "what if my aunt had balls?" -- in one fell swoop, bbs member verse expresses his dislike of "what if" scenarios and shows he has far too much idle time on his hands. I actually fixed the HD bit a few minutes after I posted. Anyway, I am not sure about my Radeon card. How do I know it is working properly? My monitor is pretty old, but I was able to run it on an even older one before...could this be the problem? ------------------ Nederland 2002 Rocketman95 on board. Check out his latest game recaps.
Regarding your monitor, you said the "quality was not optimal". What do you mean? ------------------ "what if my aunt had balls?" -- in one fell swoop, bbs member verse expresses his dislike of "what if" scenarios and shows he has far too much idle time on his hands.
Damn this is a pain... Problems: 1) Video Card- ATI Radeon 32 DDR What I did: This is an OEM version, so I went online and downloaded the latest drivers. This was after I had already installed the simple VGA drivers which are necessary to start up the computer (graphics suck at this point of course). Then, I just followed the simple instructions on the downloaded file and yet quality was not optimal. Now I know that the card works fine, as I tested it on another system. Could this be a motherboard problem or must I go through other steps? 2) Sound Card: Onboard K7T Pro 2-A What I did: Windows could not detect drivers for it, so I tried running them off the provided CD with the mobo. It would not stop reading the CD and crashed the computer. Faulty? Probably. Is this an indication of the mobo, however? 3) IBM Deskstar 20.5 GB What I did: This is a new system. I booted the computer using a floppy disk. I later noticed under Windows that it only had a capacity of 2 GB. This is also noted under DOS. I tried re-installing Windows but the problem persists. In addition, I changed the system from FAT 16 to 32. 4) Windows loads extremely slowly, despite the system's specs (850 TBird, 256 RAM). It works fine when loaded, but it's annoying to have to wait so long. ------------------ Nederland 2002 Rocketman95 on board. Check out his latest game recaps.
I dont know if this would help with loading windows. But you could get this thing, not sure of the name. It helps load programs and things like 100% faster. My friend has it and loves it. ------------------ May I have another Snowball Clutch? Please may I? Ill be a good little mole.... I promise.

Deal with this one problem at a time...leave the video on PCI Graphica Adapter for now.. see below for recomended order.. 2) Sound Card: Onboard K7T Pro 2-A What I did: Windows could not detect drivers for it, so I tried running them off the provided CD with the mobo. This is also noted under DOS. ok..this is where I would start.. was the disk loaded from scratch? did you have to Fdisk it? if so, when you ran fdisk, did you enable support for large drives? if you didn't, it will only make partitions of only 2 gig. go to the DOS prompt and type "fdisk" answer yes to the first question...then check the partition size(s).. you know what...this is hard to do this way...email me at larsoles@earthlink.net..and I'll do what I can.. I am not sure whether this is just the video card or the monitor. I used the card on another computer and it worked fine...excellent graphics. Using the same games on this one, quality sucked. How much does the monitor affect the performance of the card? I now have a 15 inch Compaq, while the old(er) one was 14 inches. One more q...is the max resolution on the properties tab determined by the video card or monitor? On the other monitor (and computer) I was able to increase resolution to the max (which obviously did not work) but on the Compaq this is not allowed. Does this mean the monitor is preventing this or that the card is not installed or working properly? ------------------ Nederland 2002 Rocketman95 on board. Check out his latest game recaps.
Max resolution is technically determined by both the monitor and video card. If you are manually setting the refresh rates for the monitor/video card, make sure you aren't setting them too high. That could ruin your monitor. The ATI Radeon 32 DDR is a fairly new card, and since you're using a 15 inch monitor, any limitations on resolution will be because of your monitor. What size was the other monitor. On a 15" monitor you really shouldn't be going past 1024x768, and that's really stretching it (no pun intended). What was the "other" monitor that it looked good on? Also make sure you have the right monitor selected in your display properties. ------------------ "Ive seen more class at a Pig Humpin Contest ." -- moestavern19 makes headlines again, and in the process leaves little doubt as to what Saturday nights in his hometown of Lompoc, California are like.
The older monitor is a piece o' crap...14 inches, and it's not even recognized. The Compaq was as such, and it is selected. With these monitors I really don't go past 800x600. I was just curious as to what actually determined resolution options. ------------------ Nederland 2002 Rocketman95 on board. Check out his latest game recaps.
