I bought a 42in samsung plasma TV from Bestbuy today and set it up myself but when I try watching standard TV programs like tonight's Lakers/Orlando game the picture is very pixelated and when I try to watch a movie from a normal DVD player the picture is kinda blurry. Do I need to call them to send somebody out to calibrate it? or is this something I can fix myself with the menu button? Thanks in advance guys.
Sounds like a connection problem or something not settings. Maybe your cable box isn't set right for it? I have a Sammy plasma. By pixelated you been dancing green dots?
What kinda of connection for the DVD player? Hdmi or component? If you use the yellow cable then it will look ugly.
I use the component cable tinman. I know it wont be great until i get the hdmi and the blueray player but man does it have to be uglier than on a 10 years old tv i have in my room?
The picture quality isn't going to change much, if at all, using component vs. HDMI, so I doubt that's the problem. The cable itself may be a problem. If you're watching standard definition pictures on it, they'll often look ugly. Do you have HD stations? If so, do they look ugly, too? How is your DVD connected? Component cable from dvd box straight to the tv?
Do you have an hd cablebox? SD tv would like crap. Also, when you get pixelation its because of the compression from the signal to the box. Your DVD shouldn't look like crap. you need to set it as widescreen and progressive. 480p should look fine. you sure you are using these cables? what kind of dvd player do you have?
First off, thank you for all the quick reply guys. I am going to try and provide as much information on the problem as I can. I don't I have any HD channel yet but will probably upgrade as soon as next week. My dvd is connected straight to the TV and my DirectTV receiver is connected to the dvd player. My component cable is red/yellow/white and my DVD player is Sony
Red/Yellow/White aren't component cables. You have the standard RCA Cables - Red and White are Audio, and Yellow is video. That would probably explain the issue. You need the Red/Blue/Green component video ones. They will only be video, though - audio goes through a seperate connection.
I'm not sure it will fix your problem, so save your receipt. I've seen people plug composite cables into component connections and it seems to work ok. If the composite cable "is good enough", it technically can actually work, but try the component cables for the video anyway and see if it fixes the problem.
yes that's why i asked you if you connected it with the yellow cable. how old is your dvd player? does it have hdmi? also how is your box connected, are you just using coax cable : cause that's the worst connection.
he's new to this dude, what you mentioned would totally confuse him. basically he thought just buying the plasma tv would make everything all good. what everyone needs to know is you need the right equipment the right connections or else everything would look like crap #1, he has to upgrade to an HD box (the cable company will give him the component cables or he can buy an HDMI cable ) #2 I have no idea how old his dvd player is. it should have a component out (red/blue/green for video). if it doesn't than his dvd player is really old.
