Awesome Preview Songs- Cheap Trick's New CD Release Date June 23

Tell me that this song doesn't kick butt- the bass work alone is worth the price of admission:

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ApBANSCr6iw&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ApBANSCr6iw&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

CD will be released on Amazon on June 23rd. An American institution.

Actually, there's 2 new songs being previewed that will be on the new CD- this is their cover of a song from Slade- the video is actually for the song Elo Kiddies from their 1st CD way back in 1977, which has a similar drum style to this new song:

    "When The Lights Are Out"

You never answered my question in the "What is Manny Ramirez Listening To?" thread - what is your opinion of The Doctor? I've never heard it.

The Doctor is the worst Cheap Trick CD- no, I can't call it that. It is the "least best," in my opinion. With this new CD, they will have released 16 studio albums, plus their most famous Live At Budokan. Because Budokan is in an entirely separate category, I'd rank them like this:

    1. Heaven Tonight
    2. Dream Police
    3. Cheap Trick 1997
    4. In Color and in Black & White
    5. Cheap Trick 1977
    6. All Shook Up
    7. Rockford
    8. Next Position Please
    9. Woke Up With a Monster
    10. Special One
    11. Standing on the Edge
    12. One on One
    13. Lap of Luxury
    14. Busted
    15. The Doctor

Judging on the 2 songs from the new CD, it'll probably be way up there among their best. Criminally underrated band. All 15 of their CDs are worth buying. Live at Budokan is just something else, especially the full version. I know, I'm a fanatical, fanatical fan, but I don't care- they are that good.

Well I love the music in that first one but the vocals are completely buried in the mix.

Saw the Trick open for Def Leppard in Melbourne last November.

Zander had a bung throat, but it was a really good set even so.

Seen them at least 8 times in Houston- Southern Star Ampitheatre, Back Alley, East Beach at Galveston, Cardi's, Summit, you name it. Always great.

Well, here's the thing- we're talking about slight, slight differences between some of these. On a given day, NPP is just as good as Heaven Tonight. The biggest gap for me is between 12 and 13- I'm not as big a fan of the last 3, particularly because the record company forced them to work with outside writers on Lap and Busted- and it's just not them, you know? NPP is weakened a bit, also, because they forced them to include Dancing the Night Away and You Say Jump, 2 songs they did not want to include (matter of fact, Todd Rundgren produced the entire album but he refused to produce their cover of Dancing The Night Away, so they had to bring in an outside producer). One on One is very good, but the drums sound a little too mechanical- I just think he's one of the most inventive drummers in rock and this CD doesn't show it as much.

Theyre going to be here with Leppard again (and Poison) on August 19th at The Woodlands. Lawn seats were decently priced, too.

Of course- you can actually get that also on the remastered version of All Shook Up- they put the EP Found all the Parts on there, with their version of Day Tripper.

Everything works if you let IIIIT!

New songs getting a lot of positive responses:

i can recall the first time i heard cheap trick...the intro to ain't that a shame back in 4th grade.....those drums blew me away...it was amazing...and they still are!

Cheap Trick is the best band EVER! No one can top Robin Zander!

If they are looking for some gems on this californian beach, I think they find and put them on this album recorded in Los Angeles.
    Latest = LA. Test
    aplaceinfrance

Thanks for Europe, rather to UK.
They pay their tribute to the British invasion during the 60's
Cheap Trick, the bridge between sixtiesenglish pop and america's rock.
    80srat

Zander STILL has the most powerful voice out there and CT is the tightest band around. AWESOME!

    very cool

Can't get enough of this song!!!! Damn, sounds like it could be from the first album. These guys have been on some musical resurgence, pressing on b/c they WANT to and doing it THEIR way! Now somebody needs to put together a cool montage video this song, quick!
    kevinocooldaddy (11 hours ago)

His name is Julian Raymond. The guy has a golden ear. I would say as far as a producer he is up there with Rick Rubin.

This was my introduction to the greatness that is Cheap Trick:

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Y2G1Q3BDwFU&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Y2G1Q3BDwFU&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Skip to about 3:10 for my all-time favorite song (along with one of my all-time favorite movie moments as a kid).

Yes, I'm bumping this thread continually on purpose (not really).

But seriously, this was a pretty funny cold open. Best song to open with, too.

"Everybody Knows" is definitely a throwback- very Beatles/ELO-esque. Nice production work- great sound on these tracks.

OK, this is strange- remember that show Growing Pains, the dad was Alan Thicke? This guy had his own talk show? "Thicke of the Night"? Weird.
