Sorry if this was touched on, but I just heard the press conference for the Glen Rice deal has been held back. It is speculated that health concerns have arisen. when questioned, Rockets management has responded "no comment". Stay tuned...

That would stink if this deal got rescinded and we get stuck with Anderson....it's probably too late to rescind the trade at this point.

I don't think we can get stuck with Anderson. If the trade is voided, his contract would be too, I think.

yeah, we won't have Shandon unless REALLY weird things happen. Sign and trade contracts have a clause that they are void if they aren't traded within 48 (or 72?) hours.

But the really important question would be....do we get stuck with Shandon's contract?

Maybe a second deal has happened and they are trying to kill two birds with one stone.

    I can atleast hope.

Man let this deal go through. If it doesn't, it's a lose-lose situation. We either are stuck with a Cato-esque contract with Shandon Anderson, or we lose Rice AND Shandon. And if that happens, you can kiss the playoffs good-bye.

Yeah...I don't know how anyone could interpret this as good news. Losing Shandon Anderson without getting anything in return when there's a crop of crappy free agents out there this year does nothing for us but subtract. Believe me, this team is a better team with Glen Rice then it is without either him or Shandon Anderson. And I don't see this playing out the way the Sean Elliott - Robert Horry situation did...I don't think Shandon would respond like that. He's history here now. The only question is whether we get any value for him leaving, ala Glen Rice.

I don't think we get stuck with Anderson's contract since it was contingent on a trade. If this did get recinded, it would be the test case for how to deal with something like this in the future. I'd prefer that it was some other team taking the plunge first.

We wouldn't get New York's contract they gave Shandon, but we would have to give Shandon a big contract, or he would walk and Houston would get nothing. Basically it's give Shandon between 5 to 7 million dollars a year for 4 or 5 years, or lose him AND Rice.

If Rice fails the physical, the Anderson's contract is void and he is a free agent. No way we get stuck with the existing contract.

There's no way Shandon can come back. He's already said he doesn't fit the offense. And Rice can't go back to NY. He and Sprewell have already alienated each other as teammates.

My guess, is if Rice is damaged goods, but can still play, they'd redo the deal, like throw in some picks, or switch Cato for Camby, or something like that.

Or, Shandon would be S/T somewhere else. There's gotta be someplace else that would give Shandon close to that money, right?

If Rice is a no-go, I say we just let Shandon walk....he will not be the difference in us getting to the playoffs or not.....we will have a bundle of cap $$ to spend next summer...

Let's not over-react. If the deal is neixed, it does not mean we lose Anderson. If Anderson wants his money, he'll still have to go through the Rockets: no one else can pay him what we can. So he'll either sign with us for less money than NY was offering or we'll put togther another S&T with him. It is unlikely that we will get no compensation for him.

    Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeasy, tigers.

I love how everyone on this board is already acting like it old news that Glen Rice is not a Rocket. We treat the Hakeem negotiations like they are still going on, but give Glen Rice the type of attention reserved for the likes of Sean Elliot and Buck Johnsonn because a press conference was delayed?

Maybe his wife wanted to sit and enjoy a delicious milkshake at Becks Prime; maybe CD is waiting in line for some deli food at Central Market; maybe Glen is marveling at the Yoko Ono exhibit at the museum. Relax.

Before the salary cap buzzards come in with some mega-complex salary cap analysis of Shandons cap-hit and the medical exception we would get and blah blah blah, lets get the scoop. Goodness.

You don't think Rice's wife broke his leg to make sure he couldn't pass his physical do you? :)

Oh well I still think we can get a better deal for Shandon, so I won't be too disappointed if we can't get Rice.
