    Referring to his 4-year-old granddaughter living in Arkansas, who his son Hunter Biden fathered out of wedlock, President Biden said in a statement to People magazine: "This is not a political issue, it’s a family matter. Jill and I only want what is best for all of our grandchildren, including Navy.”

    The Bidens had previously not recognized the existence of the young girl publicly, drawing increasing scrutiny from 2024 Republican presidential contenders and even second-guessing by Democratic supporters.

    Biden's image as a family man who values decency and compassion had been complicated by his decision not to mention the young girl until now.

    I agree we don't need to be picking on political children, but the focus was on Biden not the child.

    Said a statement from President Biden, quoted in "President Biden Speaks Out on Hunter’s Daughter, 4, with Ark. Woman: ‘Jill and I Only Want What’s Best’ (Exclusive)/'Our son Hunter and Navy’s mother, Lunden, are working together to foster a relationship that is in the best interests of their daughter,' the president said in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE" (People).

    But, of course, it's a political issue. The child is 4 years old, and we're only getting this acknowledgement now. Obviously, his people have read the criticism, notably the criticism from Maureen Dowd (which I blogged about here), and they see that pretending the child doesn't exist is not going to work.

    And whatever happened to "The personal is political"? You've acknowledged the child, but now you want your privacy, you want us to trust you to work it out appropriately, but you haven't been fair to this mother and child over the years, and how men treat the women they've impregnated has long been deeply politicized. Your party flaunts its (supposed) concern for impregnated women. You don't get to privatize it when the woman is inconvenient to you.

    Maybe you forget but trumps kids worked as offical government employees of the government. If you take a offical paycheck from uncle Sam you deserve to be in the spotlight @rocketsjudoka .

    Trumps kids had outsized influence on the presidency which is why his kids are fair game. Don't be offical government employees and nobody will talk about you

    Biden was shamed into acknowledging Hunter’s love child with the stripper. He shamefully tried to avoid it, but even the lefty press turned on him because it was so disgusting. Then the cherry on top was him trying to bury it in the Friday afternoon news dump.

    According to the USA today article you posted, the paternity suit was settled in June while these remarks were made in March.

    Even if Joe wanted to acknowledge #7, lawyers would probably advise against it.
