Does it bother anyone else that all the Lindy's, Sporting News and other preseason rags are written too damn early and never fully account for trades and free agent signings? Every one I have picked up so far does not have Maurice Taylor as a Rocket.

Knowing journalism, I know that these writers have to have a specific amount of space. Because the interior pages with the team stuff have no ads, I would think it would be pretty easy to hold off on the editorial content until later in the summer.

It seems like every year it gets worse and they leave off more and more. Eventually, these will be even more worthless than they are already.

    Jeff,

It seems all sports mags are getting like that. I grabbed a NFL mag for my Fantasy Football league. Of course I didn't even look through it until the night of our draft. It was very lacking in what players went where through free agency and what players were traded and so forth. I would guess it was put together right after the draft. What a rip off.

By the way, I finished last in my fantasy league that year [IMG]

I guess it's because of the first-mover advantage. If you are the fifth one to come out with a magazine like that, nobody will notice. The fans buy the first one as soon as they see it. That's why they all rush out although they know some of the information will be inaccurate once the season starts.

Echoing Bobo's statement, I used to play fantasy football religiously and it would be shocking how quickly magazines would come out. I'd see FF-related mags come out with stuff before training camp or before the draft. Also, when you think that they were probably written at least a month before any of us see them, it makes it even more ridiculous.

Should see what we get here in Australia, we get the first release magazine that include no off season changes and they ususally become avialable just as the season proper starts, for example francis and Pip last year were syll with the Grizz and Rockets respectively.

Just another reason to not buy magazines. With the internet, there is access to lots of online mags as well as up to date information. I haven't bought a mag in a while.

I've boughten alot of preseason mags and the consensus among them is that the rockets will finish 4th or 5th in the midwest, I dont know if their prediction is accurate or not since I dont believe they accounted for the signing of maurice taylor, what do you guys think, are the rockets going to finish 4th or 5th in the midwest?

I usually try and find the most recent mags for fantasy football and augment this with the internet.

If I was a preseason NBA magazine, I would be the first to release, but have a website that updates the information. A password could be written in the mag in a sealed bag.

I don't know if this would be cost efferctive, but I defently would buy a web backed mag over an out of date one.

I agree, Jeff, it's a joke. But then again, they wouldn't put them out there on the stands if there wasn't demand for them.

UGH... I agree Jeff... I used to always buy 2 or 3 of those to get ready for the season.

But man... everybody just wants to get there's on the shelf first now, and they're just crap.

The year we got Barkley, I could only find ONE mag with him in it at all...

    Worthless....

Happened to me when I used to play fantasy b-ball. Last year Francis wasnt included on the Rockets roster, and the year before Pippen wasnt included. Joe Joe seems to have a nice idea. Even though that password would bet around pretty fast...
