I want to help my wife with this, and attempt to lower our intake of junk food. Does anyone know of some websites that could help me decide healthy cooking and provide a shopping list for the recipes? Can someone help a brutha out?
Most of the time, my wife asks me what I want for dinner, and my response is "Whatever, no matter" or "What do you want?". A vicious cycle. If I could find a site that would help me plan for a weeks worth of meals and give me the shopping list, I would be in heaven and my wife would like me more.
Man, my wife and I are the same way. We'll both just say we don't care, until eventually we go pick something up. I'd really like to start cooking more at home and eating healthier, so if you find some good stuff be sure to post it.
Another great site here that lets you lists your favorites for easy reference: http://www.recipezaar.com/
I usually refer to her as "the pistol" because she's so sassy. Her show is actually very good and she's a cutie although a tad on the ADD side.
Simplest meal I know that kicks ass. you need: Chicken breasts salt pepper garlic potatoes butter cheese sour cream green onions asparagus, or other veggie. set oven to 400. bake potatoes for an hour. take potatoes and cut an oval on top of each. Scoop out potato leaving skin intact. take potato meat and place in a bowl. put butter, cheese, sour cream, onions in the bowl with the potato meat and mix it all up. put back into the potato skins. sprinkle with cheese. set oven to 350. take a broiler pan and set chicken breast on top with a healthy dashing of salt, pepper and garlic. Put chicken on top rack in oven. place potatos on shelf underneath on cookie sheet. set for ten minutes. Boil water in a pot that will hold your colander above the boiling water. place the veggies in the colander and cover. when timer goes off, take chicken out. flip em and put salt, pepper, garlic on other side. leave potatoes in. Put chicken back on top rack. set for ten minutes. when timer goes off this time, remove potatoes. Place oven on broil and leave chicken in for 3-5 more minutes, or until edges are slightly crisp. take a plate and put chicken breast, twice-baked potato and asparagus on it and you're done. Trust me. This is simple as hell.
Here is a GREAT resource for meals. They send you via email an entire week's worth of recipes and meal ideas. Really cool. http://www.menumailer.net/
Oddly, the basic Betty Crocker cookbook has a lot of good recipes. Guess there's something to be said for tried and true. I use a lot of recipes there initially, then build on them to develop variety and personality.
