    Mavs beat Blazers, 108-96

"They approached us like we're soft," Van Exel said. "I'm getting all the phone calls from their players about how they're going to do this to us and do that to us, and I told the guys before the game, `This team really feels we have no heart.'"

Why isn't it surprising that 6'8" Scottie Pippen took a swing at 6'1" Nick Van Exel?

    What a man!

Portland had that @ss-kicking coming. I hope the standings stay the way they are. I'd like to see the Blazers call up the Spurs on the phone and tell Tim Duncan and David Robinson they're soft.

    Geez, I just don't think I understand.

How do the Spurs, Robinson and Duncan especially, not have heart?

I could have understood this before the championship, but now?

I'm sure they'll be happy to remind you that they have one more championship ring than the guy in your signature. :p

As would I.....I'd pay an obscene amount of money in fact. Man, why can't there be an NBA Celebrity Boxing Match!?

Shouldn't you, or someone, have said that before the season started? I'd be willing to bet that when the Rockets signed Pippen before that season started, you were as excited as ever about our chances for a championship. Players, coaches, fans-- no one even breathed the term "asterisk" until a team they didn't like won and they needed an excuse.

In the books, it's a championship. You can tell yourself whatever you want to try and make excuses, but when we look back in the history books, the Spurs will be labeled NBA champions. Deal with it.

Yeah, but the guy in his signature could kick both of their asses and then he'd have 2 rings more than both of them.

    God Bless the Chuckster.

I remember reading somewhere that Phil Jackson said before the season (or at least before it was over) that in his opinion, the title would have an asterisk by it no matter who won it.

Of course, that may have been because he wasn't coaching that year, so he had no chance to win the title himself. :)

    The Cat,

think of it like snowbirding for a layup. is it two points? sure. is it the same as actually playing defense, then going down and scoring on the opposition? no.

it counts, but it is a cheapie.

or like the woman you meet at the club or bar or whatever that's had a couple of drinks and you end up sleeping with. did you do it? sure. was it really the same as meeting a sober woman, getting to know her, treating her like a lady, then having sex with her? no. not really. different amount of work went into it.

    same result...cheaper path.

    deal with it.

Cat, saying that championship doesn't have an asterisk next to it because we, as Rockets fans, would not agree with that if it had been the Rockets that won instead of the Spurs proves nothing except that we are all homers. I am sure that if the Rockets had won that season, I would NEVER have argued that there was an asterisk, just like I will never agree that the two Rockets championships have asterisks. Personally, I don't go for the asterisk stuff either. I think every championship acquired is hard fought and won fairly and squarely, so it all counts (hell, Jordan never had to play Olajuwon in the finals, so you could say the Bulls championships have an asterisk). I just wanted to point out that "no one would call it an asterisk if it were the Rockets" is not really much of an argument considering we are all Rockets fans.
