If the Texans make the well informed aquisitions that we all see are needed, circa 2005 draft, O-Line, D-Line, Safety, Linebacker, QB, RB, what will be the result next year? Knowing now what our position is in the draft and some of the available FA, I would guess at at worst 7-9, at best 9-7. The big question I have in my mind is, if getting rid of DC and possibly spending a 2nd or third rouder is going to benefit us at all. Realisticly this year, without the Buffalo lay over by our Defense, we would have been 7-9. If we just keep our focus on building up the rest of the team, mainly our o-line and D-Line, to bolster our running game, and stop those 4th quarter drives, I see us again at at least 7-9 if not at 8-8 or 9-7, because we all remember NY and Tennessee, we should have had those, Turnover and Defense. Now my opinion changes if we can pick up a solid FA QB that is not just a stop over and also the release of DC doesn't affect our Salary Cap. I would rather spend money on other support players and not be hit with DC's salary plus a new QB's salary. I think this strategy keeps us from starting all over at QB when it is obviously not our biggest concern. Build up a solid supporting cast with one more draft and FA's. If next year goes well in other areas, namely O-line and Defense, and it is obvious DC can't take us to the next step, then replace him. Plus, it might be interesting to see what Sage can do if David falters.
i voted, but just way too early for this. who the hell knows what decisions will be made, or what can be even considered "smart" decisions..?
What's with the "less than or greater than" choice ??? That's logically stupid and no computer language would accept that sh*t. I LOVE YOU, man.
8-8 I'll bet DC is still here too, and we run the ball 75% of the time with DC throwing the occasional third down pass or the little roll out short dump off passes.
We won 6 this year... Includes a last second loss to the Bills...a loss to the Titans in OT...a 6 point loss to the Titans in which there was a fumble return for a TD, a punt return for a TD, and 2 Houston fumbles inside the Titans 26...and a loss to a Giants team that could have been pulled out had we not sucked. A solid draft...a few key free agents...an extra year of experience for some players and coaches...and I think 9-7 could be there.
also includes a win to the raiders that could have gone as easily the other way as those you cite. i don't have the first clue how we'll do next season. i have no idea who'll be our starting QB or RB next season.
True...but I think the team should have gone 7-9 this year. I dont think a 2 game improvement would be that much of a stretch. Hopefully, we wont have as bad of luck with injuries next season...
I think we are a d-tackle, cornerback, safety, oslinebacker, running back away from going 9-7. So I am going to expect a really good draft. Edit- that would be with Sage starting and David backing him up.
If carr stays 9-7,If carr leaves 10-6 HOw so? If the defense and special teams had come through, in the final seconds against The titans, giants, and the bills...this season's record would be 9-7.
Not to mention 3 pts wins over a Jacksonville team that had 4 turnovers, a Cleveland team that made every mistake possible, and a Miami team with a broken QB. This team could easily have won a few more and lost a few more. They pretty much finished where they should have.
it's not that much of a stretch. provided we all had more information as to who is going to be filling key roles for us next season.
In all of the games we won offense was not an issue. In the three games in question defense was definitely the issue and not the offense.
What? In the Oakland game, they didn't even let Carr throw in the 2nd half because he was hurting us more than helping - they completely let the defense win that game. Against Cleveland, we had 85 yards passing and scored 1 TD against a terrible defense.
i'm gonna sound like a broken record with major...but did you watch the oakland and cleveland games??
Raiders have the third highest rank defense and I believe the Browns are pretty high up too. So we scored enough against Great Defenses, and we stopped horrible offenses. Again, the scenarios in the Browns and Raiders games say little about our defense, except that they can stop bad offenses.
