    Predict Top 3 Picks,Teams Contest

This contest is just for fun and to put us in the and Draft mode.

Object: Predict the top 3 teams ( winners) in order.
Also predict the top 3 players picked in order.
Predict the Rockets correct order and pick for a tie breaker.

Rules: Points are awarded as follows:

    1st team: 20 Pts , 1st player: 5 Pts
    2nd team: 10 Pts, 2nd player: 10 Pts
    3rd team: 5 Pts, 3rd player: 20 Pts

Bonus of 10 Pts each every time you predict the correct order of the team and the corresponding player picked (Max 30 Pts)

The maximum for total pts is 100.

Tie breaker. Correct order of Rockets order and pick.

Deadline: May 18 by Midnight (one day before the ). You can change your prediction till then.

    Very simple.

The reason for the points distribution is that it is more difficult to predict the 3rd pick than the first or second in my opinion.

The reason for the top 3 teams only is because the order of the rest of the teams will be known once you know the top 3.

    My entry:
    1st Memphis pick Yao Ming
    2nd Cleveland pick Jason Williams
    3rd Chicago pick Mike Dunleavy
    6th Rockets pick Wilcox

    Have fun and good luck!

Come on guys. I just revised the contest to include a tie breaker if you predict the correct order and pick for the Rockets.

    It is very simple.

I will do the calculations and will announce the winner.

Good prediction mduke. However, if Cleveland picks ahead of the Rockets then the Rockets will be forced to pick 6th. The question becomes is Woods going to be available at no. 6. You can change your prediction if you want.

It becomes a little tricky but this is the real way it is going to happen in the draft.

    1st GS: JWill
    2nd Bulls: Wagner
    3rd Den: Ming

    5th Hou: Woods

btw CC, you wont be able to tabulate the winners til the draft takes place which is what, like the end of May or in July? May 19th is just the lotto drawin I think.

What a shocker gr8-1. The Wizards will pick No.1 for two years in a row. The Knicks will not get No. 1 but will settle for No.3.

I like Butler at No.7 for the Rockets.

    Nice twist.

By the way, I am going to announce the leaders after Round 1 (May 19 selection) and the final leaders Round 2 after the draft selection in June.

Safe picks by CriscoKidd. Ming will slide to No.3 though.

The final results will be tabulated after the draft in late June I believe but I will update the preliminary results after May 19 right after the selection.

saleem, also good safe picks but since the top 3 that you selected are already ahead of the Rockets, the Rockets will stay at the same position picking 5th.

We will mark this as Rockets picking Woods with the 5th pick.

So far we have 5 participants and no one selected the Rockets to be in the top 3 which they have about 30% chance of getting.

To make it more clear. The following is extract from NBA.com. It shows the odds of picking and the order of picking.

However there are 3 teams that will be selected by the Lottery system that will allow them to be in the top 3 without regards to their original order. The Rockets for instance can pick 1,2,3,5,6,7 or 8 depending on who wins the top 3 picks by the lottery.

If a team that was supposed to pick after the Rockets was helped by the lottery and is in the top 3 that will push the Rockets from it is original pick which is 5 to 6. 2 teams will make it form 5 to 7 and 3 teams will make it 5 to 8. However if all the teams in the top 3 were supposed to pick before the Rockets then the Rockets will stay picking at the 5th spot.

Team Record Chances First pick Second pick Third pick
    Golden State 21-61 225 22.50% 20.30% 17.63%
    Chicago 21-61 225 22.50% 20.30% 17.63%
    Memphis 23-59 157 15.70% 15.80% 15.66%
    Denver 27-55 120 12.00% 12.68% 13.39%
    Houston 28-54 89 8.90% 9.75% 10.78%
    Cleveland 29-53 64 6.40% 7.20% 8.23%
    New York 30-52 44 4.40% 5.05% 5.91%
    Atlanta 33-49 29 2.90% 3.37% 4.02%
    Phoenix 36-46 15 1.50% 1.77% 2.14%
    Miami 36-46 14 1.40% 1.65% 2.00%
    Washington 37-45 7 0.70% 0.83% 1.01%
    L.A. Clippers 39-43 6 0.60% 0.71% 0.87%
    Milwaukee 41-41 5 0.50% 0.59% 0.73%

Ah just saw that Rocketman15 is the first one to have the Rockets selecting 3rd nabbing Ming. Very possible.

It would be funny if Milwaukee won the lottery. Ming or Woods would make them the immediate favorites in the east. Things that make you go hmmm..........

Every thing is possible gr8-1. I remember Seattle few years back were supposed to pick 12th and ended up picking 2nd and we all know who they got (The Glove Gary Payton).

Since there are no prizes involved or anything, I'll be the first to predict

    1: Houston Rockets - Yao Ming :D
2: Chicago Bulls - Jason Williams
3: Golden State Warriors - Chris Wilcox

giddyup goes for Woods as top pick and the Stern conspiracy theory gets NY Ming.

Jayz750 went with the popular choice (Houston NO.1 )

    Update: 8 Participants.

Houston going 1,3,5,6,7. No. 2 and No.8 for Houston have not been taken.

Houston Picks so far: Ming, Woods, Butler and Wilcox.

NY seems popular to hit the top 3.

Actually, I am the only one out of the eight or nine thus far who made that prediction.
