What? Another Tmac thread? Sure, why not, only this one is to see what people think about his return and when it will happen. I think it will be mid December when he returns, just around Christmas. Why? Because I think the Rockets are trying to trade him and will want to make sure he is healthy before playing him, and want to minimize exposure of re-injury. Also, I believe they want to establish an offensive identity without a guy who walks the ball up the court, I believe they will want to get a running, picking, moving style in place and established BEFORE they let Tracy join in the fun. So to me, this is what I believe will happen. 1. Tracy will say he is ready to go 2. Morey will say, while they appreciate his enthusiasm, they want to take it slowly to avoid an Amare type of situation 3. Tmac will not play in preseason and may not do much in practice as Rockets evaluate his progress. 4. Tracy will show a little frustration in the media saying he is ready etc. 5. The Rockets Org will say they believe he is getting closer. 6. Tmac finally plays, but in a limited off the bench role 7. Eventually he becomes the 6th man, but talks about wanting the ball more and needing his touches. 8. The Rockets trade him at or around the deadline for younger players that fit their style and picks. That is what I think will happen, I could be wrong.......have been lots of times before......lol...... But to me, this is all about getting their system set and playing for the future.....and not letting TMac push himself too much and re-injure his knee. So, Mid December is what I think, what do you think? DD
I voted for the beginning of the season, not because that is what I want to happen or think is best for the team. I just think that the injury was minor for the type of surgery that he got. This is his contract year, so while I do not think he will be 100%, he will push himself through anything that is not painful like last season.
I see Tracy coming back when Adleman says he's ready to come back. What will Adleman look for ? - TMAC can play back to back games - He can go 100 % in practice - He is confident in his knee I think Morey will trust Adleman's judgment to determine when TMAC gets back. Simple as that. Rick was clearly frustrated last year having to deal with uncertainty of lineups each game. He will avoid that this year. If I had to predict, I'd say December. Why not Nov? Cause I doubt he can do the 2 a days leading up to the Preseason. Nor can he keep up w/ the speed of NBA players yet. But he still seems ahead of schedule. I'll say mid December.
I didn't read the actual poll question and answered the question "when will tmac be ready to go?" Debut date is a better question. Had I read it right I would have answered sometime in November.
He had a 30 point on an injured knee last season in the first month of the season. He says he's not in pain anymore, so I don't see how he can't come back.
I voted beginning of season. He's going to want to re-establish himself right away and make it his team. But I do see the rocket organization wanting to take it very slow as to when he comes back.
Here's an article on Chon.com about this very subject: http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2009/09/the_first_decision_of_the_seas.html
Sometime in December would be best for the team. As DD pointed out we need to establish an idenity with our new players. Although, I think Tracy will try to come back sooner. (November)
I'm going to go with late November, I think management wants Tmac to come back in his best condition for two purposes: one, to maximize his contribution to the team and two, show other teams that T-mac is still a capable player (although honestly he will never reach all-star levels again).
As soon as T-Mac is ready to play at 100%, then he will debut. There will be no "lets hold him out because..." type of stuff. That would be in no one's best interest.
You guys forget that TMac's knee was a very small operation compared to Amare's and such. I expect a November debut.
I believe he will play from day one. No matter what anyone else thinks, Les seems to really believe in T-Mac (as do I) and I think Les wants the best possible product on the floor from Day 1 assuming everyone is healthy. I believe that T-Mac will be ready for the start of the season and believe that he is going to be an integral & essential part of what the Rockets accomplish as an organizatoin this year.
I think the Rockets want to be cautious, they have seen very little of what Tmac was doing in Chicago and want to get their own opinions of where he is in conditioning etc. Let's hope that Tmac will be allowed to continue his Grover arranged excercises. DD
Given the latest news, I guess it would be cheating to pick December. But, yeah, it looks like that's when he's returning. Good call, DD.
Blind squirrals and acorns and all that. But to me it just made sense, Tmac clearly has taken his training seriously, but the Rockets have not been involved in it. It is sort of strange, if the Rockets were really counting on him, you would have thought they would have had a representative up there with Grover, but they weren't which makes you wonder how much they really believed in Grovers methods. Now that he is back in Houston, you can not blame them for being cautious with their $23 million dollar asset....and they have quality wings that can hold down the fort while he gets in game shape. However, I believe there is more to their thinking, that they also have seen him whine about his touches and Rick's offense for 2 straight years and this is their chance to just go alll out with committment to it, and to guage how committed Tmac is to running it. I think it makes perfect sense to hold him out a while.... This could all change based upon training camp, preseason and all, but it certainly is a smart move IMO, to take it slow. DD
