Hassan Whiteside - 7'7 wingspan & 9'5 standing reach.... Paul George measured 6'9 and his been killing it at team workouts, against other Lottery picks ... pretty much assures himself a lottery pick (has been getting Tracy McGrady comparison) Derrick Favors measured the same as D. Howard.. --RB
Some random comments: Hassan Whiteside comes as big as advertised, which isn't that surprising when you have watched him play. The dude is long. Weight is 227 though, which isn't gonna cut it. Watch him probably get pushed around for at least 1-2 seasons. Bad results for Ekpe Udoh. His standing reach basically means that he most likely will not be able to fully translate his shotblocking to NBA level. Patrick Patterson should get a little boost. Being basically bigger than Udoh and having like 5 inches longer standing reach than Carl Landry, who he is often compared to. Biggest surprises were Larry Sanders and Jarvis Varnado. Both were much bigger than their listed specs and with a reach of over 9' for both, it's likely safe to say their shotblocking will translate to the NBA level. Xavier Henry was surprisingly long as well. He's not my favorite but he should be at least in discussion in the late lottery-mid first round range.
I like Udoh more than Whiteside, however I have had my doubts about his shot blocking translating to the NBA level for a long time. I'm not surprised about Henry, but I didn't expect Patterson to have a long standing reach.
Ed Davis has got some short shoes. Only takes him from 6'9 w/o to 6/9.75 with. Jon Scheyer is actually taller (6'6) than his listed height (6'5). But like so many have pointed out, it's wasted height; a 6'3 wingspan basically means that the majority of his height advantage at PG was due to his abnormally long neck. He can see over people but he can't do anything else better than a 6'4 PG.
Aldrich is an undersized C in elevator shoes for basketball shoes. He is wearing nearly 2.5" heels. w/o shoes 6'9" w/shoes 6'11.25"
Dexter Pittman surprised me the most when it came to measurements, getting measured at 6'11.5" with a 7'6 wingspan, and 9'3 standing reach.... it will more than surely improve his stock, and may have even given him a chance at the 1st round.... which is a big improvement from early projections of being a late 2nd rounder.... --RB
Was curious about Sanders and Varnado. Most mocks have them late first early second, and was wondering if you think we'd buy a 2nd rounder if one of them slips down.
That's pretty good for Whiteside. Just for reference, Yao Ming has a 9'8" standing reach but is neagted by his two-inch vertical.
But his been losing a lot of weight, and as long as he can continue to improve his stamina on the court to play more minutes.... I could see a team taking a chance on him early in the second round .... --RB
I can see a team taking him late second round. I dont see him doing anything in his inevitably short NBA career.
He is another overweight stiff with long arms. He's Eddy Curry/Pig Miller, not Kendrick Perkins/Andrew Bynum.
Cousins is fat. Uzoh and White have a hell of a wingspan. Babbit has a good wingspan for a white dude. Whiteside looks like a top 5 pick.
He wears elevator shoes, but he isn't undersized. He was measured at 6'10.5" without shoes. With standard basketball shoe(1.25"), it would be 6'11.75".
Sanders wingspan and reach is right there with Cousins and Whiteside. I think he'd be a steal in the 2nd round. I'd love for Morey to pick up a 2nd rounder and draft him there. Something tells me one of Sanders or Alabi is going to fall to 2nd round. Would love to see their verticals. But nothing to measure brain wave activity in any of this. And that is the killer. You could have an 8' wingspan, and a 40" vertical but if there is low brain wave activity, it don't matter.
is there a mistake with the measurements? theres no way whiteside can have that kind of length and reach with hands that are only 8.25 inches long. im 6'3'' and my hands are exactly 8'' long. if his hands are really that small, wont it effect his rebounding and handling?
